Teachers already have a duty of safeguarding children, and all suspected abuse or neglect is reported. However, funding for social work services and youth services has been cut. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to get adequate support for children once it has been reported.

Interesting that “The work we should be doing around prevention…” doesn’t include policing, enforcement or targeting the perpetrators. Difficult to understand why you’re irritated by an initiative to tackle grooming gangs other than a suggestion it’s racist to pursue them?

This is insane. There is NO requirement for schools to notify parents of credible allegations of sexual abuse or molestation by teachers against children. No thanks to the California legislature (and others), the school removes the teacher and effectively conceals the level of abuse. But the unions surely support mandatory reporting, right? They call it “nobody wins.” They want to focus on the “challenges within the family” rather than mandatory reporting because failure to report is a criminal act. “The notion that when you have these studies and data put out by law enforcement that you want to get rid of mandatory reporting tells me you want to hide the truth. What right thinking person doesn’t want a teacher mandated by law to call the police a little boy or a little girl is molested? That’s not only stupid policy but it’s frightening.

Yesterday we had a delayed short debate on the government's pre-Easter statement on child sexual abuse. I was suitably frustrated and tried to explain a) that grooming rape gangs are still operating NOW and b) that councils aren't going to apply for grants for local inquiries as too many within are compromised because THEY were part of cover up.
