For Americans this is a trade war. For Canadians it's existential. Joking about making them the 51st state and saying their consent doesn't matter tends to do that. Good politicians make it easy for the other side to say yes. This made it impossible.

BROWDER: Most important thing is that Russians have been led to believe that "special military operation" in Ukraine was some far-off, distant thing that didn't affect average Russian. Now every Russian is affected by it. It's no longer "special military operation", it is a war. It's a war that's hitting them in pocketbook. It's a war that's making them stand in line for gas. It's a war where they can actually see plumes of black smoke on the horizon in St. Petersburg and Moscow. And that completely changes psychology of Russian people about how this war should be thought about and whether it's a war that they really want. Is it something that helps their lives? Is it something that makes them better off? And it was easy for them to think about it theoretically and say, "Okay, yeah, this is a great war of conquest." But it's no longer theoretical. It's very practical, and it affects their lives.

Sad to say that there is no expenditure being made by the State Government of #Odisha for the people of this state and for their development. Campos: I'd say pretty much everyone in the room supported what I had to say...I think it's less of a question of if they supported me, and more about their willingness to say the quiet part out loud. I think it's very easy for me to make those kinds of remarks when my livelihood does not rely on corporate media and whoever is pulling the strings at every outlet. So it's a lot scarier for them to speak out against the direction of CBS, especially those who work directly under it. But that's not to say that they don't oppose what's going on. It's just that oftentimes they lack the courage, or there's too much on the line for them to say something about it. And that's not me saying it's a good thing that they're not saying anything — it's just the reality.
