Agree with her or not, she deserves respect. Incredibly intelligent, coherent and still working at her age. We must also remember she came from a time where it wasn’t easy for women to get ahead, she was a strong woman, a role model. RIP Ann.

@Ralphlane1948 I met her at a local Tory garden party when she came as guest and speaker. I remember her chatting to everyone and giving a very amusing but relevant (at the time) speech. Quite a charismatic woman. Petite but made up for in character. Really liked her.

Well said, CG. I had the opportunity to hear her speak live in Exeter in '19 and such was her spell-binding speech that the following speaker (Alexander Waugh, no mean wordsmith himself) asked how he was to follow 'such splendid Ciceronian oratory'. Lord, she was good.

Everyone should have the right to state their opinion, whether you agree with them or not, FREEDOM cannot exist without it!

If I like you CG are not offended every day free speech is dead. Open robust debate & dialogue is the basis of a fully functioning democracy. I thank Ann Widdecombe for reminding us of this. Our world is a poorer place without people like Ann. May the Lord rest her soul.

Really sad about the horrific manner of her death. Though I disagreed with her political views, I admired that she never pretended to be anything she wasn’t and that she stood by her convictions. She was also kind and funny . An absolute power house. May she rest in peace ❤️

A wonderfully honest lady who said what she believed and was not afraid of offending snowflakes. A free speech champion and delightful character taken from us far too early. I wish I’d met her. ❤️

A quibble. Those who would take the high-ground of offense with others’ free-speech — supporting curtailment of speech, e.g. hate-speech laws — are the moden-day totalitarians. Many of them decry others to be Nazis, not considering that to be hate-speech, w/no rebuttal allowed.
