The Ministry of Education condenms, in the strongest terms, the acts of violence captured in the viral videos attached. Initial information indicates that the students captured in the videos are from two schools in the Central Region. The Director General of GES has since been directed to investigate the matter. Accordingly, he will meet with the Central Regional Director of GES, the district directors of GES in whose jurisdictions the schools are located, and the heads of the said schools, this morning, at 10 am [23rd February 2026] at the GES headquarters in Accra. Even as we await the report from the Director General of the GES, let me state that the Minister for Education and I take a very serious view of these acts of violence. Moments ago, Trump's White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt , when asked about Trump potentially abolishing the Department of Education, seems to say that science, social studies, s3x education, physical education, history, spelling, and other subjects shouldn’t be taught in schools in America. Seriously? Specifically she says: “As a mother of a child, I want an education system that helps my child read and write, teaches him math. NOTHING ELSE IN THE CLASSROOM.”

The Samuel Leeds School has finally opened, with over 400 pupils already registered 🏫 This is not our first school building, but it is our first private school, offering financial literacy as well as core subjects. When I was at school, I was told I was stupid, and none of the teachers taught me anything about business or finance. Not only are we building schools that provide this education, but we are also working with the Ugandan government to improve the curriculums within state schools. Our next project will be a Centre of Excellence that provides online courses and remote training for not only the children but also the teachers. I have just pledged to the Ministry of Education that I would construct this building, volunteer my teaching time, and provide computers for the new centre. This has never been done before. Once this is proven to revolutionise the school curriculum and people see that the right education is the future of prosperity, I pray the UK will follow and allow me to offer my voluntary services to bring financial literacy across the country 🇬🇧

I have such a huge problem with what is happening here that I don't even know where to begin. This isn't education. Schools may not promote or oppose any political party, and teachers and principals may not influence learners’ political alignment. This is political mobilisation and indoctrination at a very young age. Having them chant a party slogan uses them as political instruments, which is unconstitutional at this age. Ironically, these protections exist because of South Africa’s past, where schools were once used as political tools under apartheid. The post-1994 system deliberately said: “Never again will children be used to push political power.” WTF is this Dep. Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube

This morning, I conducted an unannounced inspection at Queens College, Yaba, Lagos, to assess its current infrastructure, leadership, and the welfare of the students. Upon my arrival at 7:45 AM, I was pleased to see the majority of students lining up for assembly, with both the academic and non-academic staff, including the principal, already present and ready to begin the school day. During my visit, I held separate discussions with students, teachers, and the principal to better understand their challenges and needs. It is clear that the school requires significant infrastructural improvements to adequately and safely accommodate its students and staff. Queens College, established almost 100 years ago, has long surpassed its original capacity. To ensure that our students benefit from an appropriate student-to-teacher ratio, sufficient resources, and adequate facilities for boarding and feeding, we must maintain a standard capacity across all Unity Schools and Federal Government Colleges. In line with our commitment to promoting quality assurance in education, the Federal Ministry of Education will collaborate with Principal Obabori and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to redesign, refurbish, and build new facilities at Queens College, including a library, dining areas, hostels, and classrooms. Over the next several months, I will be conducting unannounced visits to other Unity Schools and Federal Colleges. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mission for the education sector is simple: to provide better education for all. This is the goal that the Ministry and I are dedicated to achieving. I extend my thanks to the principal, teachers, and students for their warm reception and look forward to working with the school’s leadership to ensure better pay and welfare packages for our teachers and improved educational outcomes for our students. #EducationForAll
