For years, maybe a decade, I've wanted to build a writing tool that just did a few things I couldn't find anywhere else. A system that mimicked how I think when I write. A system that provided clear affordances, features, and places to do the things I wanted to...

By the way, you’ll hear little sounds in the video when I’m arrowing through different alternatives. There are two tones. One’s higher pitched, which you’re gonna hear most of the time, and one is a lower pitched sound. The lower pitch sound is a return to the original. This way, I know when I’m back to the original version I was on before I began playing.

Wait till you see the LinkedIn integration!

You also notice that the lines underneath the alternatives aren’t perfectly straight. I wanted them to feel a bit more like an editor’s pen, something a little human, a little wavy, imperfect, just slightly, just a little bit, not too much, but just something that gave it a bit of a different feel than just your standard straight and perfect computer-generated underline.

And it's all Markdown, too. Alternatives, overflow, etc.

Little follow-up video. I didn't show that you can just type ?? in the alts sidebar and the AI will toss in some ideas. True at the word, sentence, or paragraph level. Plus more explosions!

I like that this gives you room to change your mind. A sentence can feel wrong now and fit once the next paragraph changes. I’d much rather have AI help me explore those alternatives than keep nudging everything toward one polished version.

Absolutely incredible idea and great UI! I have been struggling with this for years, either by always keeping 100 versions in my head while writing or by creating a 5-page long document with notes for a tweet-size text. I can't wait to try this out. Thank you, this is amazing!

This is very nice. Funny enough this is the 2nd writing software walkthrough I've watched today. Earlier one was NEO, a writing tool for book authors by Hugh Howey, creator of the Silo series. The Darlings idea there looks very similar to your Overflow:

@dhh I thought it was OmaWrite. Why do not merge the two apps?

Profilbild von Fagner Sales

I may be wrong here, please correct me if that's the case. Is this one of those scenarios where agents are just perfect for today's world? The tool is amazing but I wonder why you didn't that before. Is it because with agents the cost of experimenting is just lower? I really loved it, hope you open source soon!

I simply couldn't have built this before myself (in a reasonable amount of time without learning a bunch of new stuff), and I couldn't ask anyone else to build it for me (they had more important stuff to do). I've always had the vision. Never the time or talent. Now I have it all.

The inline wordsmithing's brilliant. No longer do alternatives have to be concatenated together as a stringy mess of alternatives, or written at the bottom that instantly disrupts chain of thought. The side panel's also a must to give the writer some nonlinear freedom. Smart!

Excellent. Some really novel UX paradigms that I haven't seen before that once you see, seem obviously needed in any writing experience. Especially around using AI not to change your writing, but help you be a better editor of your writing.

"And so sometimes like God speaks to me, I think primarily God speaks through me through action. And I think he speaks through everyone through action. You know, we like to talk a lot, but not a lot of people like to live it out. And I make mistakes, but I want to try to live it out to the best of my ability. I think secondly, through the way of communication, I've always had a heart to make complex ideas simpler to understand because I'm not a smart guy. I have a hard time reading Shakespeare and complex literature, so I like doing that. But sometimes I'll be sitting and talking with someone, and I feel like God tells me something about the person. They're struggling with something or if they've got a physical ailment and I'll ask. And sometimes it's true. Sometimes it's not. I'm not not discouraged if it's right or wrong, but if it's right, sometimes God speaks through that way. Those are a few ways God speaks through me, but, but the intrusive thing is so beautiful because I think he can speak to everyone intrusively and it is so sweet when it happens. And it was, it was happening this morning to me in the shower, which is so sweet and beautiful, you know. I struggle a lot with what people think about me because I've always struggled with people pleasing before being a Christian. And so, you know, if I'm misunderstood or someone takes something in the way that I didn't say it, I get hurt because I'm like, oh, I didn't mean it that way. Or, you know, whatever. So I'm kind of talking to Jesus and I'm in the shower praying and I'm going, man, God, I want to be more like you. I want to be how you want me to be. I want to love you. And I want to be your son. And I just want to focus on being yours. And I don't want to care what other people think. And this, this and that. And Jesus was speaking to me about some practical things I needed to do. Like it would help you if you, you know, stopped looking at what people say online. It would help if you deleted Instagram. And it would help if you did this. And, it would help if you would just trust other people to do what they're supposed to do. So you can focus on being mine. And I'm sitting there in the shower going like, wow, this is so good. And it's so hard, but it's so good." Bryce Crawford, Minister

Jacob Tierney discusses his process for writing Heated Rivalry and outlining season two: "The book [Heated Rivalry] is in five parts and very quickly I was like, part one, episode one. Part two, episode two. It was very clear to me. …So in this case, I actually did not outline. Because I was just using these parts of this book, and I knew these books so well at this point. Something that I did, and that I'm trying to do again now when I'm writing the new season, is I'm trying to use—Because there's a dreaminess to this show, I try to use my memory as a guide. I'm like, what do I remember? And then I try to give primacy to the stuff that I remember and that has stuck in my brain all these years with this story. So I’m like, oh I have to do that! And that's a nice way for me to kind of center things. Where if I have to do that, then it means maybe I don't have to do this, and it maybe means I want to combine or collapse different things. Because if this is going to take up—If one incident that I'm thinking of is going to take up the space in an episode that I think of as the heart, …then you don't need to do a first version of it in the same way, you know? Little things like that. That being said, for this season because I'm working with a co-writer as well, we have outlined everything. And every time, I do approach outlining like a teenager, where I'm like, [modulates voice] I don't want to. But then when I do it, I'm always like, why don't I always do this? It makes everything so much easier. So I kind of gaslight myself in that way." ✍🏼 transcription via Heated Rivalry News & Updates. #SEONGHWA talked about filming challenges with junior idols because he knows that feeling so well and wants to help them in any way he can 😭 ⭐️: these days things are going so well, so I feel good. A lot of people recognize and congratulate me a lot, and... I feel really thankful. I also, in my own way, try to find what I can do and do it. That’s my mindset. So I wondered what I could do, and I just filmed challenges diligently, contacted people here and there and filmed. Even when I felt tired I wanted to help somehow, so I worked hard (like that), I wonder if it helped? If it did even a little, then that’s enough for me. And now, usually… I also had times like that, when I really wanted to film a challenge with a senior I admired. I would do my hair and makeup on my day off, go to the broadcast station and even bring a gift. That one moment would stay as such a good memory for me, and the senior would say a lot of good things to me that it would become a good connection. I thought, “someday, if I can, I want to do that too.” I don’t know if I can help in a big way yet (with popularity), but if it’s something good for those juniors I’ll do everything I can. I know that feeling so well and it's such a precious one, so how could I refuse that? You just have to do it, ofc. And if I’m can remember it I want to do their challenges too, but I’m really slow at learning choreography, even memorizing our own songs takes me a long time. But still, I want to do it sincerely. If I get the chance, I want to practice more and do better, but after doing so many (challenges) I do hit a bit of a limit. So even when resting, I keep watching videos and trying to film better (challenges). Yes. Seniors and juniors both prepare really well, so how could I do it half‑heartedly? I need to help, even if it's just a little. #성화 #ATEEZ #에이티즈

This might be the best "AI Engineer" I've tried so far. I'm an old school developer who started 30 years ago. I feel very uncomfortable letting AI take control of my code, but for the sake of science, I spent two hours building an application that took me weeks to build a couple of years ago. I used Pythagora, a brand new tool backed by Y Combinator. They just released to the public. Keep in mind that I use AI every day to write code, but Pythagora is something different: it's a tool that leads, and uses you—the human—as the copilot. I go into more details in the video, but here is the TLDR; 1. Holy molly! We've made a ton of progress on this front! This is way better than Devin when I tested it a few months back. 2. Love the approach of generating a plan with sub-tasks before writing any code. 3. The tools never tries to do too much: it tackles every small task one at a time, and gives you instructions so you test everything. 4. It does exactly what you'd do when it gets stuck: writes a bunch of logs and uses those to correct itself. Pretty neat! 5. It's fast. It runs locally. It's an extension to Visual Studio Code. I'm impressed, but I don't think this tool is for me. I'm not the type of developer who's ready to relinquish control. I felt I had no connection with the code because I didn't write it. It was not my code. I know many people who don't care about this. I know many people who will get tremendous value out of Pythagora. I hope they keep pushing the limits, providing feedback, and helping this get to a point where old folks like me feel more comfortable using it. Don't take my word for it. The best thing you can do is to give it a try and see how you feel using it. Thanks to the team who built this, for all of the explanations and support, and especially, for sitting and listening to my dumb questions for 2 hours while I tested this.
