For years, the design industry has talked about "design vs code" And tools (including Figma!) have forced a choice. But this is a false debate. Code isn't the opposite of design. Code is a material for design. So we're bringing code to the Figma canvas with Code Layers.

@guiseiz I agree with the beginning, not with the end. Code is not a material for design, code (which is different from development) IS design. Code layers is a step in the right direction, but the goal is create things in code, or by “hand” and switch between those states seamlessly.

Can you (or some resource) explain what Code Layers actually are? What is the code, what are its capabilities and limitations, what are the assumptions and dependencies? The marketing doesn't illuminate these coder concerns:

Figma is the definitive system of record for intent. The market has completely missed this structural reality, viewing Figma as an endangered species rather than the coordination layer. Code is commoditised.
