Force-sensing fingers! 🧤 Stanford researchers just released UMI-FT, a handheld data collection platform that puts compact six-axis force/torque sensors on each finger, enabling finger-level wrench measurements alongside RGB, depth, and pose data. Many manipulation tasks require careful force modulation: too little force and the task fails, too much and... show more

Amazing work by Stanford! Here is another version of force sensing at fingers that complements with extreme robustness and reliability. @BotaSystems sponsors that for researchers that want to start collecting data for Physical AI today.

Giving robots “fingertip feel” is such a big step from just seeing the world to actually handling it. It also feels like a perfect bridge tech for teaching foundation models about forces, not just pixels. Whiteboard wipes and zucchini skewering today, delicate lab work and who knows what next tomorrow!

given that there is limited training data, robotics can move forward only when a Hand Universal Design is used by everyone, and training data is shared where possible. I feel without that it will be just wasting resources

One real bottleneck in robotics is hands. Grippers and fingers concentrate the hard problems: sensors, materials, geometry, and real-time processing. Without them, AI perceives. With them, AI interacts with the physical world.

how would one apply this to the unitree g1 edu?

If only they knew about @TexavieInc 5k1n tactile gloves! 🙂

这项技术为精细操作研究提供了前所未有的数据采集能力,有望推动机器人灵巧度的进一步提升
