Frida Escobedo presented the prize at a ceremony in Singapore. The two necklaces are composed of tiny cubes built from thin sheets of gold and decorated with niello; an ancient metalworking technique. A Filipino geologist filed gold flakes off his own wedding ring, convinced the world he found the largest gold deposit in history, and built a $6 BILLION company out of jungle dirt. There was no gold. After search, 24 foreign origin gold biscuits of 999.0 purity (24 Carat) weighing a total weight of 2,799.3 grams were found in the hidden pouches. The local market value of this gold was Rs 4,26,89,325. The manner of concealment indicates that the gold was concealed by an unknown person with the intention of smuggling it into India in violation of the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. *THREE SUSPECTED GOLD SMUGGLERS ARRESTED BY GOLDBOD SECURITY TASKFORCE, REMANDED INTO CUSTODY BY CIRCUIT COURT* 29th April, 2025 Three (3) suspected gold smugglers have been arrested by the GoldBod security taskforce. The three suspects — Goutam Katriya, 35, Miraj Sarvaych, 22, Manash Damani, 42, are Indian nationals who are in the business of trading gold in Kumasi and Accra for Unique MM, a company allegedly owned by one Musah Salifu. The suspects were arrested at their private residence around Atinga Junction in Kumasi, which has been converted into a gold trading center. The arrest was based on a tip off from a patriotic whistle blower that the suspects were purchasing gold at “black market” rate for the purpose of smuggling. The suspects were arraigned before the Achimota Circuit court yesterday and remanded into custody for a period of two (2) weeks. At a press conference in Accra, the Director of Investigations at National Security, Chief Superintendent Osman Alhassan, disclosed that an amount of 1.9 million cedis, 4,500 rupees, 4.363 kilograms of gold, two counting machines, a CCTV recorder and an Indian passport were found in the possession of the suspects. Preliminary investigations by National Security so far revealed, that none of the three suspects possess a valid license that allows them to purchase or deal in gold in the country. The suspects who been dealing in gold in Ghana for over a decade, have not been able to adduce any residence permit or work permit or tax payment records on their business operations. Additionally, it’s been revealed that Musah Salifu, a Ghanaian, who is alleged to be the sole shareholder of the Unique MM, is only a front for Goutam Katriya, the real beneficial owner and alter ego of the company. Chief Superintendent Osman Alhassan cautioned both Ghanaians and foreign nationals against violating the provisions of the Ghana Gold Board Act and other laws governing the gold trading sector of the country. “This arrest is only the beginning of GoldBod’s ruthless war against illegal gold trading and gold smuggling. We know that the arrested suspects smuggle gold through unapproved border points into India. This has serious negative consequences for the Ghanaian economy. We are still gathering intelligence on several illegal gold traders and smugglers. And very soon, we shall take necessary action.” he said. The suspects are to remain in NIB custody until May 12, 2025, when they are expected to reappear before the court. In a related matter, the GoldBod has reiterated its directive for all foreigners in the gold trading sector to exit the market by 30th April, 2025. All persons dealing in gold have also been directed to trade in Ghana cedis and at the Bank of Ghana Reference Rate. A breach of these directive, shall constitute a punishable offense under the GoldBod Act, 2025 (ACT 1140). This was contained in a Press Release issued by the GoldBod dated 23 April, 2025.

This couple bought an old dresser from the thrift store… and while they were taking it apart, they found something wild tucked inside the side rail that holds the drawer in place. A wad of rolled-up bills were just tucked away — mostly fifties, and a single $100 — and by the time it was all counted, there was $600 just sitting there waiting to be found. They even found a little gold coin tucked away too — it may or may not be real gold, but wouldn’t it be cool if it was! It's always so fun when you find something that you weren't expecting. Now ask yourself one question: WHY IS ALL OF THIS HAPPENING AT THE SAME TIME? And buying gold was only step one. Now China is adding the vaults, clearing, settlement, yuan contracts and payment rails around it: - Hong Kong launched a government-backed gold clearing system linked directly to the Shanghai Gold Exchange. - It is expanding gold storage beyond 2,000 tonnes and exploring physically settled RMB gold futures That is what changes the entire equation. China does NOT need the yuan to replace the dollar. It only needs to make the dollar LESS NECESSARY. Because if another country gets paid in yuan, there has always been one obvious problem: What does it do with the yuan afterward? China is increasingly building another answer: TURN IT INTO GOLD. 1) Trade with China in yuan. 2) Settle without the dollar. 3) Move the proceeds into physical gold. 4) Store and clear that gold through Chinese-linked infrastructure. And if more countries start using the same rails, this stops being a story about the price of gold. It becomes a story about the dollar being needed for fewer transactions. Save this tweet. Physical Gold → Equities Rebalancing Executed! Credit Cards → Gold → Cash → Mutual Funds Sold all my Vedhani Collection from P.N.Gadgil of 231.5 gms 995 gold to Kalyan Jewellers, who bought it at a 3% deduction from the day's rate. I accumulated this gold over several years, and my average purchase price was around ₹10,000/gm, while I sold it at approximately ₹15,000/gm. All gold was bought at discount from various platforms. (Capital gains tax applies based on the respective purchase dates.) On top of the appreciation, the credit card points valued about 15% conservatively on the buying price earned while buying the gold have funded my travels over the last many years and should comfortably fund another year(s) or so of travel. Post melting, the purity came to around 99.4%. (Kalyan may not buy back at just a 3% deduction if this happens, so it's advisable to carry some 999-purity gold along for melting when selling, helping keep the overall purity above 99.5%.) Interestingly, the final weight was marginally higher. The sale proceeds were credited to my bank account the next day after the 3% deduction. I then invested the proceeds into the UTI Nifty 50 Index Fund. I have already held this fund for more than five years, so this was simply a top-up. (It does have a slightly higher expense ratio than some other index funds but the tracking error is lower) Why a domestic index fund? For the last two-plus years, I've been allocating most of my investments to gold. While gold has delivered spectacular returns during this period, the Nifty 50 has generated almost no returns over the same timeframe. I felt this was a good opportunity to buy into equities at roughly two year old price levels and rebalance my portfolio. (PS: I already hold ~20% of my portfolio in an US index since several years) PS: Bought some of the gold back today already at a lower rate than I sold it at as there were some great deals. Silver's squeeze is being driven by gold which in turn is being driven by the dollar. No, not "debasement" or "inflation." Eurodollar deflation. People make the critical mistake believing gold is a substitute for the dollar when it's not even in the same arena. Precious metals instead compete with stocks and other risky financial assets as the safe haven alternative to them. Ledger money separated medium of exchange from store of value 150 years ago (not that you've heard anything about it, but you live it every day each time you use your credit card - medium - and check your 401k - store). Gold is not a medium, but it is superior form of value. Gold's behavior therefore has nothing to do with "the dollar" except when eurodollar conditions drive the exchange value and signal conditions relative to stores of value alternatives. This is why gold has behaved like it has and why all the gold "experts" get it wrong. When the dollar is rising, that's a deflation signal which means increasing chance conditions will be bad for risky stores of value. Gold shines. And that is exactly how it has traded recently, too, from late last year through April, the middle of the year when gold backed off because risk-taking was back at the forefront, and now with flat Beveridge everywhere and credit cockroaches showing up every other minute gold is utterly flying. Its fields look like any field in eastern England. But in 1948 a Norfolk farmer hit something with his plough. He thought it was bedstead metal. It wasn't. Over the next 40 years, archaeologists returned to that field again and again. They found 11 hoards in one field. More than 175 complete torcs. And hundreds more fragments. The largest collection of Iron Age gold ever found. Anywhere in the world. And one piece stood above all the others. 🏛️ The Snettisham Great Torc. A neck ring, one kilogram of gold and silver alloy. Twisted from 60 individual strands of wire, each made by hand. The trumpet terminals at each end were cast in one piece. With pattern detail no modern goldsmith has fully reproduced. The casting technique used has not been replicated. 2,000 years on, the craft still holds its secret. The torc was made by an Iron Age British smith. Probably for the Iceni. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing “Cheek to Cheek” in Top Hat (1935). For this “Cheek to Cheek” number, Ginger Rogers wanted to wear an elaborate blue dress heavily decked out with ostrich feathers. When director Mark Sandrich and Fred Astaire saw the dress, they knew it would be impractical for the dance. Sandrich suggested that Rogers wear the white gown she had worn performing “Night and Day” in The Gay Divorcee (1934). Rogers walked off the set, finally returning when Sandrich agreed to let her wear the offending blue dress. As there was no time for rehearsals, Ginger Rogers wore the blue feathered dress for the first time during filming, and as Astaire and Sandrich had feared, feathers started coming off the dress. Astaire later claimed it was like “a chicken being attacked by a coyote”. In the final film, some stray feathers can be seen drifting off it. To patch up the rift between them, Astaire presented Rogers with a locket of a gold feather. This was the origin of Rogers' nickname “Feathers”. The shedding feathers episode was recreated to hilarious results in a scene from Easter Parade (1948) in which Fred Astaire danced with a clumsy, comical dancer played by Judy Garland. “Cheek to Cheek” was nominated for the Best Song Academy Award for 1936, which it lost to “Lullaby of Broadway”. The song spent five weeks at #1 on Your Hit Parade and was named the #1 song of 1935. Astaire's 1935 recording with the Leo Reisman Orchestra was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000. In 2004, Astaire's version finished at No. 15 on AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema.

Darius Robinson was pretty much a non-factor, not only in the preseason game but also throughout the first two seasons of his #Cardinals career. There were a few snaps where the Raiders had WRs assigned to block D-Rob, and they had no issues doing so. On the Raiders’ big run, D-Rob was put on his ass by 2025 3rd-round pick Charles Grant out of William & Mary, who is a backup tackle for the Raiders. If he wasn’t drafted #27 overall, he probably would’ve been cut based on the body of work he has put on tape. This is a make-or-break year for D-Rob. He was a 5-year college player who broke out in his final season after moving from the interior to the edge. His best reps at the Senior Bowl also came on the edge. I don’t think it’s going to work inside. I’d like to see him moved back to the edge. With the current edge rotation, is there really any downside to trying it?
