For those who have been asking for a translation of President Ruto’s emotional speech in Bomet on Thursday, here it is: “It’s not usual for me to speak in an informal way at a gathering like this, but allow me to say something. Aron Cheruiyot has raised a concern, asking: what has happened to our person, our president? Where is he? It’s a fair question. But let me ask you something in return. I am not at home resting. I am out here fighting a battle. And let me be honest with you, you have made my work difficult. I have been going across the country, even kneeling before other communities, asking for their votes because I must secure enough support. Yet the people who have let me down are some of you, my own community, some of whom are even present here today. We have 1.8 million Kalenjins with ID cards who have not registered as voters. We also have 500,000 people from our community who are over 18 but have not even applied for ID cards. That means 2.3 million people from our own community will not vote. Never joined the IDF even tho im from Israel. I had the opportunity to not take part in it due to disabilities, so i took it and now I focus on creating.
