French and Spanish Make No Sense: « Today »?
10 条评论

Universal language coming into depression when French tells him that lot of people will say "Au jour d'aujourd'hui".

Le repère temporel le plus flou de la langue française : let me introduce you "tantôt" qui bien évidement change de sens selon le contexte et la région.

On the contrary, they make all the sense in the world. Spanish "hoy", French "hui" (never used without "aujourd'"), Italian "oggi" all come from the Latin "hodie", which is an abbreviation of "hoc die" = "on this day".

Surtout que « hui » comme hoy en espagnol signifie déjà aujourd’hui !

Not a great take when you check the etymology for 'morrow' 🤷

"and "hui" means "day" in Latin, because why not?"

Par contre "demain matin" en espagnol, il me semble que c'est "mañana por la mañana" 🤔

Other languages use the same word for "Morning" and "Tommorow" German : "Morgen" Japanese : "Ashita"
