From a flat, swamp-like forest, Pete Dye made a golf architecture statement. The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass was designed to showcase and test elite players. Through brilliant design, it has withstood distance gains and continues to frustrate the best in the world.

Is there any good detailed information on what the greens looked like before the players revolted and demanded Dye redesign/flatten them? Sounds like the pros have always been divas to some extent. Cheers

This isn’t correct Brandel Chamblee. The Stadium Course was designed to play firm and fast. “…I do believe the rustic nature of the Players Course was lost over the years. That has lessened its demanding design features, but no wind and soft greens have probably contributed more to the low scores, since the course was originally designed to play firm.” - Pete Dye in Bury Me in a Pot Bunker

It's no secret that TPC Sawgrass is far from Pete and Alice Dye's original and controversial design from 1982. Davis Love III breaks down how the severity of the greens were "dumbed down" due to player pushback and how his design firm Love Golf Design plans to go about the renovation work following this year's Players Championship.

Guys, we have 4 days of play at The Players now. Can we agree the tree on hole 6 is awesome? Here is Rory today. Basic flighted 3 iron for one of the best players in the world. Yet not even close to the fairway. A mental test that players are failing. Hitting under the tree is no issue, but just the mental image alone is making guys so uncomfortable. When Pete Dye designed TPC Sawgrass, he had a tree here for a reason. Turns out the architect knew what he was doing! Let’s test the best players on earth!

In 1994, Greg Norman told Pete Dye he was going to “chew up TPC Sawgrass”. He then shot an opening 63 and 3 x 67’s to set the 36 and 54 hole scoring records and beat the 72 hole record by 6 on 24 under. The record stands to this day!🔥🇦🇺 Greg Norman

In 2005, Andi Meadows was without a job and living in a FEMA trailer in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. She found work at a golf course through a family friend, and it quickly turned into a passion. Today, Meadows is a second assistant superintendent TPC San Antonio 👏

Many people believe that historic architecture, such as churches, cathedrals temples, and even pyramids were designed to capture in harvest the energy from the world aether. But of course, there’s no profit to be made in free abundant energy.
