Ghostty nightly now supports the `click_events` extension introduced by Kitty and supported by Fish. If you're using Fish 4.1+, you can click (no modifiers!) anywhere at a prompt to move the mouse. I believe Ghostty is the first to support this extension outside of Kitty. As far as as I can find, the only shell to support this is Fish (4.1+) and the only terminal to support this previously is Kitty. It'd be great for more of both ecosystems to support this. Other terminals do support moving the cursor with the mouse to some extent (Ghostty included since 1.0), but do so by another, more fragile mechanism: when you click, it just best-effort calculates a number of synthetic left arrow key inputs to pretend to move your cursor. This is super fragile because it can't take into account shell behaviors particularly around indention, multi-line, and if you're not at a prompt at all... The `click_events` extension allows Ghostty to know when you're at a prompt line, and works by encoding a mouse click event while at a prompt line to the shell. day 4 of building an OpenCode clone from scratch i have a newfound appreciation for how good this tool is, and how much attention to detail was put into making it. here is what i managed to clone, and problems i've encountered: 1. scrollable autocomplete. mouse click to select, mousewheel to scroll, arrow keys that auto-scroll when you hit the edge, enter to confirm, sounds simple, but remember that this is a CLI tool, not a web app, all of this has to be implemented from the ground up 2. toast notifications in the terminal, success/error/info variants, auto-dismiss, easily triggerable through context 3. modal dialogs with backdrop overlay, click-outside-to-close, escape to dismiss, focus trapping so the content behind stops capturing input, again, seems simple, but the concept of a "dialog" does not exist in the terminal, so implementing it is way harder 4. built a responder chain for keyboard input, only the topmost layer owns the keyboard. ctrl+c walks down: dialog > command menu > clear input > exit. had to invent this because there's no built-in focus management in a terminal 5. generic command actions. each command gets a context with toast, dialog, and navigate (easily extendable for further features) 6. react-router with a memory router in a terminal app. navigate between screens with the same patterns as web 7. When the inspector is in use, the terminal it is inspecting slows down to about half speed due to the overhead. But this only impacts the terminal being inspected. A little bit more on my Novel editor. One of the things I loath about word processors is that they are so unaware of how prose is structured. They treat the line as the most atomic unit of text. But writers think in words, sentences, and paragraphs. Never lines. The editor I am working on has navigation tools for word, sentence, paragraph, and scene. You can navigate and move content at each level. All from the keyboard with some intuitive hotkeys. A pointing device like trackpad or mouse engages the part of your brain that processes spatial input. That's not where you want to be when writing. It can take you out of your flow state. And it is physically quite slow because your hands must move away from the keyboard. So I'm rethinking editing with the keyboard. It's not hard to learn, and it makes editing faster. I haven't been using it long and already I'm barely reaching for the trackpad. Follow me to be the first to try this out. #WritingCommunity

As many of you know, for the last five months I've been working full-time on my next big thing. The challenge was to invent something new and implement it entirely using LLMs for writing code. The first stage of the project is now complete: the web application, which I called is now online and accepting users. You can see a short demo in the video. 100% of the code of the app was generated by LLMs (mostly Gemini and Claude, maybe 10% of ChatGPT). I haven't written a single line of code. The tech stack is TypeScript, React, and Supabase/Postgres which was (and still is) fully new to me. During these five months, I implemented from scratch three versions of the software. It started as a Markdown editor to help me with my book writing and ended up as an AI-assisted reading and self-learning platform. What makes ChapterPal unique is a novel reading experience where the user can use the keyboard keys to reveal or "unreveal" the content and ask questions at any moment. (Mouse wheel, touchpad, smartphone screen, and voice input are also supported.) The LLM receives the entire content of the chapter and tries to answer questions based on the chapter's content, which reduces the chance of hallucination to the minimum. (Though not to 0%, of course, but near it.) This way of content consumption is known as **active reading,** a strategy for engaging with a text to improve comprehension and retention by consciously interacting with the material. The goal is to move beyond passive reading to a deeper understanding of the text and to remember key information more effectively. The registration on ChapterPal is via the waiting list. This is to avoid unexpected load spikes and cloud charges. Usually, it takes less than 24 hours for me to activate a user. Give it a try and let me know what you think. The next stage is finishing the content ingestion pipeline, which will automatically convert high-quality content from sources like HTML, PDF, and LaTeX into Markdown. Obviously, only those pieces whose licenses allow creating copies. ChapterPal has its own collection of textbooks and articles on AI, machine learning, and data science topics. If you don't find a piece of content you would like to read in ChapterPal's collection, a Chrome extension, ChapterPal Uploader, allows you to upload any PDF or HTML page to ChapterPal in one click. The content is only available for you to read to avoid the possibility of copyright infringement. I hope you enjoy using it as much as I enjoy building it.

Ghostty is getting automatic scrollback compression, resulting in 70 to 90% less physical memory usage. It happens incrementally when idle, so it had no measurable effect on IO throughput. I'm not aware of any other mainstream terminal that does this. Demo video below! The gains let us increase the default scrollback limit from 10MB to 50MB, because on average a full scrollback will still compress smaller than the prior limit. More history, for free. ("Unlimited", disk-paged history is on the roadmap too) Let's talk about cool implementation details, cause this was fun. First, the data structure and memory layout ("PageList") I wrote two years ago finally pays off! One of its traits is that screen memory is backed by a linked list of page-aligned, page-sized (or page-multiple-sized) blocks. Because each block is page-aligned and page-sized, we can use madvise to discard its physical backing while keeping the virtual address space reserved. Compressed pages therefore disappear from resident memory, but decompression is still guaranteed because the address space remains valid and we simply fault new pages back in as needed. We use the same trick for our memory pools, too. Unallocated pool pages don't count as resident memory, saving another couple of MB per terminal. This functionality is also available to libghostty-vt consumers via new `ghostty_terminal_compress` APIs. The consumer decides when the appropriate time to compress is and the APIs advise on compressability.

Actual hardware capture of the latest build of jnmartin's #Doom 64 port to the Sega #Dreamcast, which has now become the definitive, prettiest way to enjoy the title, with its dynamic lighting and bump mapping. SO MUCH NEW SHIT TO TALK ABOUT: First of all, this is the very first game to utilize the brand new "hybrid" vertex submission mechanism we just added to KallistiOS. It was a long, cruel week to get all of the issues there sorted out, but they have been, and it has further boosted the game's performance while under load and is now something the rest of the DC community can utilize in their homebrew. This scene in particular used to lag using the traditional, DMA-based vertex submission mechanism with all of the lights and its higher geometric complexity, but notice it's not even dropping a frame now! Next, support for the Dreamcast's MOUSE and KEYBOARD have been added. These controls play EXTREMELY well and feel like a very smooth, natural way to play the game, if you want the Steam/PC control scheme. Finally... if there is any doubt as to whether the Dreamcast version is actually the definitive way to the play the game, jnmartin now allows you to export the assets from the (LEGALLY PURCHASED, DAMNIT!!!) Steam version, and import them into the Dreamcast version, where you can enjoy the extra bonus levels and campaign with the new and improved graphics! THIS IS NOW PUBLICLY AVAILABLE! I've been building a music player with Next.js for fun. Here's a quick demo of how it works (it's open source!) • Demo: • Code: If you want to learn more about how it's built, here's more details ↓ I'm using Postgres (with Drizzle) to store information about the songs and playlists. Audio and image files are stored in Vercel Blob (object storage), and the URLs are then referenced in the database. For the UI, I'm using shadcn/ui (so Tailwind CSS and Radix). This made it easy to copy/paste in some nice components, like the dropdown menus. I built the entire first version of the UI in v0 and then iterated from there, feeding it my Drizzle schema as a source in the project and having it scaffold some of the boilerplate for me: I added support for keyboard navigation (using arrow keys) or vim motions (j/k to go up/down, and h/l to go between playlists and tracks). Also, space to toggle the now playing song, and / to focus the search input. The search function has a nice utility to highlight the currently searched text on the page in yellow. Then, I was exploring how to pass metadata from my application to macOS or iOS. Turns out there's an API for that – MediaSession. Web apps can share metadata about what media is playing (title, artist, album artwork) and sync play/pause/seek with system media controls. Works across modern browsers — even integrates with iOS dynamic island and shows up on lock screens: I set up my app like a PWA – it has a manifest.json file, so it can be installed to my iOS home screen or added to my dock on macOS. On iOS, it then uses the full screen height `100dvh` (dynamic viewport) and has padding on the bottom for the safe area with the `env()` CSS function. Finally, I was able to use the Vercel AI SDK in a script to clean up the metadata on audio files I downloaded from YouTube. Bonus: I even was able to dogfood the React Compiler, which helped me fix a performance bug! That's all! It's fun to make personal software:

claude playing TFT -- i ran it for two games and it improved in-context from 0 to 3/30 rounds won. it figured out "3-starring" on its own (buying pairs to upgrade units) which is a core mechanic of this game and hasnt been instructed on how to play besides asking it to "play tft and win" comparing this cua agent to OpenAI Five's result from 2017 which is a different game, model(a big LSTM), had access to Dota's API outputted a discrete action at 4.6hz this cua agent runs at 0.15hz considering it takes anywhere from 2-15 seconds to think(0.07hz without), and is just pixels in, any mouse/keyboard out... and (potentially) wasnt trained on TFT specifically but not sure despite this 2-15s seems to be fine for a turned based game like TFT but in prior videos like league/minecraft is considerably harder for a cua agent to do since by the time you take a screenshot the game state may have changed and you've wasted 7 seconds thinking, and another 7 seconds thinking about the new game state, and catastrophically failing like that. the intention here is not to play TFT or league with a bot. please dont use it as such

On the black market, in the hands of those who betray, monopolize, and starve, while those who deserve it cannot reach it.. Pewbeam is live 🎉 This was just a dream, a dream I didn’t even know was possible—but I decided to pursue it anyway. Today, that dream is now a reality. We have a desktop app (Windows and macOS—this weekend) that can do all of this and even more. Over the last six months, I’ve pushed myself and my team hard, and I’ve seen people become hopeful and genuinely blessed by this product. I’ve received strong support from pastors, church members, techies, and several media houses and reporters. It has been a great honor to spend myself on something worthwhile. We’ve built an AI-native presentation app that displays relevant scriptures on screen in under 80 ms, without needing a volunteer. We’re starting with scriptures, but we’re growing into a comprehensive presentation software, with slides launching next month. From testing Pewbeam in churches over the last four weeks, pastors have been able to focus on what matters instead of juggling or micromanaging the media team while preaching. Church members have been able to follow their pastor’s references in real time and take better notes. In the words of a member from one of the test churches: “Pewbeam changed the way I follow sermons in church completely.” This is the kind of impact I see Pewbeam having on people’s faith and on how church and worship are done. Pewbeam’s mission is to ensure the Church is not left behind in the AI era. We’re starting with this application, with many more to come in the next few months. We’ll keep working with stakeholders in the Christian faith, collect feedback, and build tools that better support discipleship. And unlike previous waves of technology, I believe we can be among the first movers in this AI revolution. With all that said, the final build of the app is ready, and we’re launching for public download on February 25, 2026. The app has a generous free tier for small churches and fellowships, and a paid plan (location-based pricing) that unlocks unlimited access to all features. 🛜 Remember LAN parties? I do LAN means "local area network" and it was essentially the internet but locally only in your home or company in the late 90s and early 2000s So you could connect to other computers to play games or share files, kinda like Airdrop but via a cable and 30 years ago, people would even meet up at some person's house and bring their entire computer (back then a big PC tower, CRT monitor, keyboard and mouse) and everyone would connect to each other Which is were you'd get all the WaReZ games, MP3 music, etc. cause nobody had internet yet, or if you did it was super slow, so LAN was much faster to transfer files I know Windows 3.11 did have support for LAN networking via NetBEUI and it "should" work, but of course on I don't have a network cable that goes to an Ethernet network hub to other computers But...we could just act like we do? I asked AI to build a virtual Ethernet hub (a hub routes traffic) that acts like a local LAN, but instead of connecting physical computers in a home, it connects other browser sessions on the internet that have running Windows 3.11 open at any time, and with DHCP it can assign an IP to every browser session dynamically, so they literally all become part of a local LAN on the internet! It runs on a virtual NE2000 network card that sends its network data not to a network cable but via Websockets to wss://pieter.com And it works, well kinda, I just started and its' not perfect, but I'm able to PING in MS-DOS from one tab to the other! Next is setting it up inside Windows 3.11!
