NM Highlands completed the New Mexico sweep, winning a 69-55 shoot out over Western NM last night (9/6/25), behind Jeffery Jones’ record breaking performance. True Freshman RB Jeffery Jones broke the D2 freshman single game rushing yards record of 380 yards, which was set Tiffin’s Garrion Corbin on 11/6/02. 🏈Last night, Jones ran for 385 on just 22 carries (20 less carries than Corbin’s 44) and scored 4 TDs, setting the new freshman single game rushing yards record. With a total of 608 rushing yards in his first 2 games, the freshman season rushing yards record of 2,064 (set by Joique Bell of Wayne St in 2006) appears obtainable. Jones needs 1,457 yards in the next 9 games (161.9 yards per game) to break that record. Jones wasn’t the only Highlands’ player that had a great game. Some highlights... 🏈Purdy's explosive camp continues. Deep 70-yard TDs to both De'Zhaun Stribling and Demarcus Robinson 🏈George Kittle looks to be truly ramping it up. Was moving and cutting well in what looked to be some aggressive rehab work 🏈Mike Evans and Christian Kirk both look like they might be close to returning. Shanahan essentially said Evans' absence is precautionary 🏈Brett Toth (concussion) was on an exercise bike. Might he be a dark horse to grab the LG spot? SD Mines accepted an invite to play Division 1 Drake on Thursday night (8/27/26) to kick off the season, and not only did they leave Des Moines with a nice payday, but also left with a 38-35 victory.
