From my archives: 40 years since Mikhail Gorbachev became the last leader of the Soviet Union, I revisit my 2012 interview with him, just after Vladimir Putin’s reelection. Even back then, I found him deeply worried about the authoritarian tendencies taking shape inside Russia.
