The comet tail is noticeably longer each day. Pause the video at about 15 seconds . . . you can see the tail of the comet looks like it is bending. The atmosphere is more dense the closer you get to earth. Changes in the density of the atmosphere change the refractive index and thus make the comet tail appear bent. I was in my crew quarters reviewing the imagery when I first saw the bend in the comet’s tail. I did not see it real time when taking the images. I yelled out the door to Don Pettit to check it out but he was already off to take more images of the comet with an IR camera . . . look forward to those. Video is a timelapse played at 8 frames per second. Images were taken with a 1/8 sec exposure with about 5ms in between shots so this timelapse should be about the same speed as we see it out the window. Canadarm2 is in the near field, upper left, and out of focus. 200mm, 1/8s, ISO 5000

We were in the UFC seats where the brawl happened last night. Dillon Danis and a small crew (6 people total) were sitting directly in front of me. They were friendly and well-behaved, he was taking photos with fans etc. Then, during the prelims their entire crew stood up and walked over to the entrance to the next section which were the 4 rows directly in between us and the Octagon where current and former UFC fighters were sitting: GSP, Alex Pereira, Kamaru Usman, Masvidal, Johnny Walker etc and, importantly, a bunch of the Khabib/Islam Dagestani crew. Danis was clearly trying to get his group into that section and the staff weren't letting him in. Eventually they all came back and sat back down in front of us, except Danis. He was still by the entrance to the fighter section, trying to get in. At one point one of his guys who was sitting in front of us could smell trouble and tried to get Danis to come back and sit down. Danis ignored him. Shortly after, Danis got into a spat with the Dagestani guys and the next thing we knew there was a giant brawl happening that he was in the middle of. I saw someone pick up a chair and smash someone over the head with it. It was pretty wild. The video is from just before the fight broke out - you can see the empty seats in front of us which is when the Danis crew first got up and left to try to get into the fighter-only section. P.S. Best live sporting experience I've ever had.

This was such a close call that all simulations on it resulted in a crash [and would have likely been one of the worst in history had it been so] August 9 1978: Olympic Airways Flight 411, a B-747 with 418 aboard, had a near miss over Athens (Greece). Due to crew actions on takeoff, engine thrust was reduced drastically. The jet lost significant altitude and speed: it flew as low as 153 ft and at a speed of 158 kts before the crew recovered. Boeing inquiry stated the jet lost power after crew mistakenly turned off the engine´s water injection system, reducing thrust, which led to a loss of altitude and speed that put the plane near an irrecoverable stall. To get an idea of how close this came to a major disaster (a 747 loaded with fuel going down in a major city), all of Boeing´s simulations of the scenarios presented in the flight resulted in a crash.
