Xenon 129 is a rare isotope of xenon, a noble gas that does not react easily with other elements. Xenon 129 can be produced by nuclear fission or by cosmic ray bombardment of other elements. Xenon 129 is found in higher abundance in the Martian atmosphere than expected, which suggests that some processes in the surface material on Mars have contributed to its formation⁴⁵. One possible explanation is that neutrons from cosmic rays have been transferred from barium or bromine atoms to xenon atoms, creating more xenon 129 isotopes⁴⁵. These isotopes could have been released into the atmosphere by impacts or gas escape from the regolith (the soil and broken rocks) of Mars⁴⁵. Fun Fact: Currently, a day on the red planet is about the same as one on Earth: 24.6 hours. According to @NASA , that length will shorten by a fraction of a millisecond per year based on data that shows the planetary rotation increasing by roughly 4 milliarcseconds per year.
