A historical note about the old basilica: the Servant of God Bishop Simon Brute was ordained a bishop there on 10-28, 1834, two days after it was dedicated. He was the first bishop of the Diocese of Vincennes, IN, (later the Indianapolis Archdiocese) which then included Chicago.

In his famous "Centurions of Rome" speech to a West Point Cadets, the “Intellectual” Fulton Sheen stated "I love West Point, I love it because you are one of the last bastions of order and discipline in the United States. " He went on to explain that in 19 of the 22 Civilizations of recorded history, that the last thing to decay was the military. He likened West Point Cadets to the Centurions of the New Testament of whom he says were the “only profession or group that comes clean throughout”. Priest did not, lawyers did not, nor accountants nor commercial men, nor doctors. “Only one group is universally praised throughout the New Testament, the only one, Officers of the Military” Our Civilization is decaying because the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops refuses to use the power given Bishops by the War Department. The Catholic Church thru the National Catholic War Council created during WW-1 has direct access to the Centurion class. The Catholic Church has Chaplains commissioned as military officers to this very day because of the creation of the National Catholic War Council, and these Chaplains are bound by the Uniform Code of Military Justice and international Laws of War. In fact Bishop Barron, as the President of one of the Diocesan War Councils created by the National Catholic War Council, you have the same access. As I have previously explained in a prior post, none of the individuals claiming an office described in the sixth article of the Constitution of the United States, has executed the oath that satisfies that same article. “The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.” The required oath is found in the first act of Congress signed into law after the ratification of the Constitution. “An Act to regulate the Time and Manner of administering certain Oaths” was signed into law by President Washington on 01 June 1789 is commonly cited as “1 Stat. 23” “I, A. B. do solemnly swear or affirm (as the case may be) that I will support the Constitution of the United States.” Not executing this oath is disloyalty to the United States and violation of the Laws of War. Now…. Prove me wrong and find a Judge, Justice, Governor, Congressman ect.. that can prove by record or certificate that they executed the oath; but when you find that THEY cannot provide such proof then it is time for you to head to the Provost Marshall, file a sworn statement, and let the military investigate the disloyalty, a violation only military law has jurisdiction over.
