The realization over the last two extensions has come home to roost. There is not going to be a purchase of TikTok with the Chinese algorithm. We know that we can't buy the algorithm so we're gonna have to rewrite this whole thing, but while we're doing that, we're gonna try and solve for all the litigation that social media gets all stemming from the fact that the platform owns the data and the customer doesn't. I think we're gonna have to fix that. So our proposal is to fix that and not use the Chinese algorithm. When you issue a chip, let's say you take an NVIDIA chip, that chip is a queen bee. It sits in the center of the hive and every programmer that uses that chip is the honeybee. It spends millions of hours training on that chip, learning that chip, writing code for that chip and developing AI for that chip. That's the honey. There's only gonna be two kinds of honey on Earth. American or Chinese. Now if you want the world to be running on Chinese honey, stop shipping American queen bee chips, and that is what is happening right now.

The CEO of the world's largest asset manager just said something that should reframe how every investor thinks about the AI trade. Larry Fink, managing $11.5 trillion at BlackRock, stood at the Milken Institute Global Conference and said four words that matter, "We just don't have enough compute." "The United States is short power. We're short compute. We're short chips. And there's going to be shortages in all three and memory, four things. I actually believe a new asset class will be buying futures of compute." Think about what that means. Fink is predicting that compute becomes a tradable commodity like oil, like grain, like natural gas where investors buy forward contracts on future capacity because the shortage is so structural and so predictable that a derivatives market will emerge to price it. That is not a minor observation from a finance executive but rather the chairman of the most powerful capital allocator on the planet telling you that compute scarcity is a multi-year, investable megatrend. The data backs him up completely. Data centers will consume 70% of all memory chips produced globally in 2026. Advanced HBM production from Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron is sold out through 2026 and into 2027 and a single AI server consumes 10-20x more memory than a conventional workload server. DRAM supply growth is running at just 16% annually while AI infrastructure demand is growing at 80%+. The chip crunch, the power crunch, and the compute crunch are not temporary dislocations, they are structural, and they will get worse before they get better. Fink also said something the bears keep getting wrong: "There is not an AI bubble. There is the opposite. We have supply shortages. Demand is growing much faster than anyone has ever anticipated." Groq's LPU is faster than GPUs, handling requests and responding more quickly. Groq's LPUs don't need speedy data delivery like Nvidia GPUs do because they don't have HBM in their system. They use SRAM, which is about 20 times faster than what GPUs use. Since inference runs use way less data than model training, Groq's LPU is more energy-efficient. It reads less from external memory and uses less power than a Nvidia GPU for inference tasks. The LPU works differently from GPUs. It uses a Temporal Instruction Set Computer architecture, so it doesn't have to reload data from memory as often as GPUs do with High Bandwidth Memory (HBM). If $MU says NAND pricing is still strong, enterprise SSD demand is picking up and AI inference is creating more storage demand then $SNDK should benefit because SanDisk is one of the more direct ways to own that part of the cycle. Hyperscalers are still figuring out the right mix of DRAM, HBM, TLC NAND, QLC NAND and other storage architectures which can keep supply tighter for longer as memory companies are going to be hesitant to add too much capacity before demand becomes clearer. I'm going to be listening closely for Micron’s QLC commentary because QLC NAND for read-heavy inference workloads is the big driver and if Micron calls that out then it would show that the storage side of the AI memory story is still earlier than DRAM.

Peter Thiel on $NVDA (about a year ago): It is probably quite tricky. If you had to concretize it, one thing that is very strange is if you just follow the money, at this point 80 to 85% of the money in AI is being made by one company, it is NVIDIA. It is all on this very weird hardware layer, which Silicon Valley does not even know very much about anymore. We do not really do hardware, we do not do silicon chips in Silicon Valley anymore. I get pitched on these companies once every three or four years, and it is always, I have no clue how to do this, it sounds like a pretty good idea, but man, I have no clue, and we never invest. There is this theory that the hardware piece makes the money initially, then gets more commodified over time, and it will shift to software. And the, I do not know, multi trillion dollar question is whether that is going to be true again this time, or whether NVIDIA will have this incredible monopoly. I suspect NVIDIA will. I think it will maintain its position for a while. I think the game theory on it is something like this. All the big tech companies are going to start trying to design their own AI chips so they do not have to pay the 10x markup to NVIDIA. How hard is it for them to do it? How long will it take? If they all do it, then the chips become a commodity and nobody makes money in chips. So do you go into hardware? You should do it if nobody else is doing it. If everybody does it, you should not do it. I am not sure how that nets out, but probably people stay stuck for a while and NVIDIA goes from strength to strength for a while.

If we get AGI before 2030 but can only produce ~200 GW a year of chips on advanced process nodes, can we ease the bottleneck by going back to older nodes? Some of the most singularity-pilled investors think so. Most of the FLOPS improvement between chip generations has come from numerics - not transistor density. But you could just design a new version of a 7nm chip like the A100 to have FP4. Holding numerics and die area constant, a B200 (2025 chip on 4nm) would only have ~3.5x more FLOPS than an A100 (2020 chip on 7nm). That seems like a manageable haircut - does it mean we can blow past the 200 GW ceiling? Dylan Patel explains why this is not an apples-to-apples comparison. If you run real-world performance analysis on DeepSeek V3 or Kimi K2.5, the performance gap between Hopper and Blackwell isn't 3x. It's ~20x. Why? Because inference is already memory-bandwidth-bound, and older chips have far fewer FLOPS per die, requiring even more communication between chips. Remember the bandwidth hierarchy: on-chip SRAM runs at tens of TB/s, HBM at single-digit TB/s, NVLink within a 72-GPU domain at high hundreds of GB/s, and between racks at low hundreds of GB/s.
