Oil technology has improved a lot & most modern fully synthetic oils such as 5W-30 can comfortably last up to 10,000 km in many petrol engines ( if the manufacturer recommends that interval.) However factoring in idling in traffic & short trips 8,000 or 9,000 km is a sweet spot. With the higher sulfur fuel in our country or if your engine has high mileage 7,500 km is good. A 5,000 km interval for a car recommended at 10,000 only makes sense if you use your car under very high rpms like offroad , towing or very dusty environments.
