BREAKING | 🇩🇪‼️‼️ German police have launched an urgent manhunt near the Weisweiler power plant after discovering several launch devices positioned close to a high-voltage transmission line, adding another alarming incident to a growing series of suspected attacks against Germany’s critical energy infrastructure. Authorities temporarily shut a section of the A4 motorway between Eschweiler-Ost and Langerwehe while police searched the surrounding area. The motorway has since reopened, but the search for a suspicious individual continues, with investigators seeking information about people, vehicles and camera footage that could help establish who placed the devices and whether the incident is connected to other recent sabotage cases. The latest discovery highlights how vulnerable civilian energy networks have become to relatively small-scale acts of disruption. Germany is already dealing with multiple investigations involving substations and power infrastructure, forcing Berlin to strengthen protection of critical facilities while determining whether the incidents stem from domestic extremism, coordinated sabotage or broader hybrid threats. For Europe, safeguarding energy grids is rapidly becoming as important to national security as protecting conventional military infrastructure. See the latest updates with us: Visioner

BIG | 🇩🇪🇷🇺‼️‼️ Germany is emerging as the central European target of Russia’s expanding hybrid campaign, with The Express reporting that Moscow is preparing a new wave of sabotage operations and assassination attempts across Europe, with Germany currently considered the primary focus. According to The Express, Vladimir Putin’s security apparatus is preparing additional covert operations designed to destabilize European states, intimidate governments and raise the cost of confronting Moscow. The warning comes as Germany is already dealing with an escalating series of suspected sabotage incidents and drone activity around critical infrastructure. Berlin has formally blamed Russia for the attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport, while German authorities are now developing a broader counter-sabotage shield covering airports, energy infrastructure and other sensitive facilities. Germany’s growing exposure is hardly accidental. Berlin has become one of Ukraine’s most important European military supporters while simultaneously possessing infrastructure, industrial facilities and transport networks vital to NATO’s ability to reinforce its eastern flank. Russia’s strategy increasingly appears designed to impose costs below the threshold of conventional war, using sabotage, cyber operations and covert action to test whether Europe will retaliate or merely absorb each new incident. Germany and its allies now need to treat repeated Russian operations as part of a sustained hostile campaign and respond with stronger counterintelligence, infrastructure protection and political consequences for Moscow. BREAKING | 🇩🇪‼️‼️ Germany has suffered an attempted rocket attack on its power grid, with more than 20 improvised projectiles reportedly designed to knock out electricity transmission infrastructure in Brandenburg. According to BILD and WELT, the apparent target was a substation near the Jänschwalde power plant. The homemade rockets were fitted with copper wires intended to wrap around high-voltage transmission lines and trigger short circuits, while analog timers were used for activation. At least two projectiles struck power lines and caused limited damage, although the total number launched remains unclear. Police have confirmed at least one explosion at the Turnow-Preilack substation in southern Brandenburg. The timing makes the incident especially sensitive. Germany and other NATO states are already warning of a broader pattern of Russian hybrid activity across Europe involving drones, sabotage, cyber operations and pressure against critical infrastructure. There is currently no attribution in this case, but an attack deliberately designed to disrupt the power grid fits exactly the kind of vulnerability Moscow has repeatedly been accused of probing. If a Russian connection is eventually established, it would represent another dangerous step in the expansion of the confrontation beyond Ukraine and deeper into NATO territory. BIG | 🇷🇺🇺🇦‼️‼️ Vladimir Putin says Russian forces have been ordered to carry out large-scale strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, signaling another deliberate escalation in Moscow’s campaign against the country’s power system. According to Putin, the Russian military has received instructions to intensify attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities. The statement points to a broader campaign aimed at damaging power generation and distribution infrastructure as Russia continues using long-range missiles and drones against targets across Ukraine. The strategic objective is clear: Moscow is trying to turn energy disruption into pressure on both Ukraine’s economy and civilian resilience. As colder months approach, a sustained campaign against the power grid could become one of Russia’s main tools for exhausting Ukrainian air defenses and increasing pressure far beyond the frontline. ⚔️🇩🇪🇪🇺 Europe is moving to build a coordinated Baltic security shield against drones, sabotage and attacks on critical infrastructure, with nine countries agreeing to create a new joint task force focused on hybrid threats. At an August 28 meeting in Flensburg chaired by German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, ministers from Denmark, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Finland, Sweden and Estonia agreed to establish a deputy-minister-level task force to strengthen protection of critical infrastructure and improve counter-drone defense across the Baltic region. The move follows the August 4 drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport and repeated damage incidents involving underwater cables in the Baltic Sea since 2022. The participating states also plan to push for defense-related funding to receive priority in the EU’s 2028–2034 budget. The absence of formal attribution reflects political caution, but the strategic direction is obvious: Europe is preparing for a security environment in which drones, sabotage and attacks on underwater infrastructure become routine tools of pressure below the threshold of open war. If the initiative expands, it could become the foundation of a broader European counter-drone and critical-infrastructure defense network designed to close some of NATO’s most exposed vulnerabilities in the Baltic region. 🔴President Trump just declared a national emergency to secure America’s power grid. The order bars the purchase, import, and installation of certain foreign-built bulk-power equipment that poses sabotage or cyber risks. It targets equipment that could allow remote access or disruption of critical infrastructure. The move is aimed at protecting the U.S. electricity system from foreign threats. Another major step to put American energy security first.

🇺🇦⚡️ Ukraine is beginning to move critical energy infrastructure underground, with frontline Zaporizhzhia becoming the first city to build underground protection for key power facilities as Kyiv prepares its grid for further Russian attacks. According to regional military administration chief Ivan Fedorov, underground protective structures are being constructed at two substations, while transformers at other critical facilities are being reinforced with massive concrete shelters. More than half of the region’s key transformers have already received protective structures, reducing their vulnerability to Russian missiles and drones. This is Ukraine adapting its infrastructure to a long war. Instead of relying solely on scarce and expensive air-defense interceptors, Kyiv is increasingly making the targets themselves harder to destroy. If the Zaporizhzhia model proves effective and expands nationwide, Russia will have to spend considerably more weapons to achieve the same level of damage to Ukraine’s energy grid, precisely the kind of unfavorable exchange Kyiv needs ahead of future winter strike campaigns. 🚨🇱🇹🇱🇻🇵🇱🇪🇪🇷🇺 BREAKING | NATO countries bordering Russia are reinforcing critical infrastructure amid concerns that Moscow could stage a "false flag" operation using Ukrainian drones to test the alliance's response, according to Reuters. Lithuania has deployed troops to protect strategic energy infrastructure, including its LNG terminal, oil facilities, a major electricity connection with Poland, and the Kruonis pumped-storage hydroelectric plant. Latvia and Poland have also strengthened security around dams, gas facilities, and other critical energy infrastructure as concerns over potential Russian sabotage operations increase. Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, and Estonia have all warned about the possibility of Russian hybrid and sabotage operations targeting NATO territory. One scenario under consideration involves Moscow using captured or replicated Ukrainian drones in a false-flag operation designed to create ambiguity over responsibility and test how quickly and decisively NATO responds. The Kremlin has rejected the accusations, describing them as "scare stories" intended to justify further military buildup against Russia. The growing security measures demonstrate that NATO's northeastern members are increasingly preparing not only for conventional military threats, but also for deliberately ambiguous provocations designed to probe the alliance without immediately triggering a clear-cut collective military response. BIG | 🇧🇪🇵🇱‼️‼️ Two separate attacks on European defense-industry facilities are sharpening fears that sabotage is becoming a growing threat to the companies supplying NATO and Ukraine. In Belgium, an arson attack struck defense-electronics firm BATS in Liège, with fires started at three separate locations. An anonymous group claimed responsibility, citing the company’s ownership links to Israel’s IAI/ELTA. In Poland, authorities say the fire at a WB Electronics facility producing components for FlyEye and Warmate drones was deliberate sabotage. Damage there is estimated at at least $4 million, with no injuries reported. No suspect has been charged, and possible Russian involvement remains under investigation. The pattern is increasingly difficult for European governments to ignore. Defense companies supporting Ukraine and allied militaries are becoming obvious targets for sabotage, intimidation and disruption far behind the frontline. Even when attribution remains unclear, repeated incidents force NATO states to treat their own defense-industrial base as part of the contested battlespace and protect factories, supply chains and technical infrastructure accordingly. ‼️‼️🇷🇺 A major fire broke Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region. These incidents are increasingly viewed through the lens of the ongoing war. While Russian officials frequently cite "safety violations" or "faulty wiring" to explain these blazes, the frequency of massive fires at logistics hubs, shopping malls, and industrial plants across Russia—particularly near Moscow—has led to widespread speculation about arson or sabotage. Whether these are genuine accidents born from decaying maintenance standards or the result of a "shadow war" of partisan sabotage, they are creating an atmosphere of chronic instability in the Russian heartland. The Kremlin’s struggle to contain these fires is becoming a symbol of a state that is increasingly unable to protect its own internal infrastructure while its resources are diverted to the front lines.

Ukraine says it struck major infrastructure targets across Russian-held Crimea. Kyiv claims its forces hit a railway bridge, a power plant and other key sites as part of an effort to isolate the peninsula from Russian supply lines. The attacks come as Russian authorities reportedly suspend civilian gasoline sales in parts of Crimea amid growing disruptions to fuel and electricity networks during the peak summer tourist season.

What if you could visualise how electricity flows from a wind farm in Scotland to your home in London? Ok it's not quite that simple, but it got me thinking that there must be a way of visualising the complexity of the electricity transmission grid in Great Britain. This is my first attempt… What you're seeing are the real power lines and substations on the transmission grid using OpenStreetMap data. The real connections between each substation are found using PyPSA-Eur as well as calculating the "electrical distance" or impedance between each substation. This is my incredibly basic and naive way of attempting to show the "speed" at which the energy is moving through the network, where the bottlenecks are, etc. I know it's not as simple as this, but it's a first attempt so… 😉 I've also added a way to pick any substation in the network and show how electricity pulses through the rest of the network from that point. This is the magic sauce that really brings to life how much infrastructure electricity has to pass through to get from point A to point B. Of course this isn't really what happens, and there's no demand to soak up the energy. However I think it still serves as an interesting visual of how complex the network actually is and the distances involved to get energy from one side of the country to the other. What do you think? Is this worth exploring further?

BIG | 🇷🇺🇪🇺‼️‼️ Russia is already waging an aggressive hybrid war against NATO, systematically testing Europe while deliberately staying below the threshold that could trigger a direct Article 5 confrontation. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, more than 500 incidents have been recorded across Europe, including sabotage, arson, cyberattacks, attempted attacks, damage to critical infrastructure and other hostile activity. The pattern has intensified again in recent weeks: a fire at Milrem Robotics in Estonia on August 15, an attempted arson attack against Ukrainian drone producer Skyeton in Slovakia on August 25, deliberate sabotage at WB Electronics in Poland on August 31, and a series of attacks using improvised explosive devices against energy infrastructure in eastern Germany on September 1. De facto, this is already a form of war against NATO states, just one Moscow is trying to keep carefully below the threshold of open military confrontation. The objective is to intimidate, disrupt defense production, test response mechanisms and expose weaknesses without giving the Alliance an easy legal or political trigger for collective defense. Europe’s problem is no longer whether Russia is probing NATO, but how long the Alliance will tolerate repeated hostile acts before redefining what “below Article 5” actually means. A vandal was found trapped inside a mini substation at the corner of Turtlehurt Street and Helpmekaar Road in Roodepoort, West Rand, earlier this morning while trying to damage electrical infrastructure. City Power teams responded after private security reported the incident shortly after 08:00, and the man was safely removed before being arrested. Police are also pursuing other suspects believed to be linked to the incident. As a safety measure, electricity supply to parts of Fleurhof was temporarily switched off during the rescue and repair operation, with power to be restored once the network is declared safe. City Power said the case forms part of a growing pattern of organised vandalism in the Roodepoort area. According to the utility, this was the third mini substation vandalised in Fleurhof during April alone. Since the start of the year, 16 mini substations have been targeted across Roodepoort, with replacement costs estimated at between R700,000 and R800,000 per unit, excluding labour. @CityPowerJhb WATCH:

BIG | 🇩🇪🇷🇺‼️‼️ German investigators suspect Russia’s military intelligence service, the GRU, was behind an attempted arson attack near the Munich headquarters of two major defense companies, Rohde & Schwarz and Helsing, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Two Bulgarian nationals have been detained in connection with the September 3 incident. Investigators suspect they were working with a GRU-linked sabotage network operating from Slovakia. According to the investigation, two incendiary devices were thrown from a moving vehicle onto a nearby construction site. One started a fire that was quickly extinguished, while the second device was neutralized. The case points to a familiar challenge in countering suspected sabotage operations. German authorities believe the detained men were not professional intelligence officers but lower-level recruits, allowing those allegedly directing the operation to remain further removed from the act itself. 🇩🇪 Germany officially raises the possibility of foreign sabotage targeting power substations In Bergheim, unknown perpetrators deliberately caused a short circuit on power lines by placing conductive material across them. Several power plant units had to be taken offline, but a large-scale blackout was avoided. Authorities are considering two possible scenarios — sabotage directed by a foreign state or left-wing extremism. “These attacks aren’t happening far away. They’re happening right on our doorstep. And those who act in this way aren’t just targeting cables — they’re targeting our country,” said North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul.
