Today was a good day for Brix. All his issues improved or stayed the same without deteriorating. The fluid in his body lessened and he is down to 38% O2 from 50%. His heart sounded and look good on scans. Cancer was ruled out. He is feisty and wants out. Every day where things improve is a step in the right direction. As I wrote on Substack, it gives us hope. Hope is good enough for today.

Mohd. Sameer, an e-rickshaw driver from Libaspur in Delhi’s Samaypur Badli area, alleges that he was beaten by police after catching a man who allegedly tried to steal his e-rickshaw. On September 6, he stopped his e-rickshaw by the roadside in Libaspur because he was hungry and began eating. A short while later, he noticed a man allegedly taking the vehicle away. He chased the man and, with the help of another e-rickshaw driver, managed to catch him. People at the spot advised him to take the suspected thief to the police. He then took the man to the Libaspur police chowki. There, he alleges that instead of taking action against the suspected thief, police personnel hit him on his hands with a baton. Following the alleged beating, his hands became swollen and painful, leaving him unable to lift them properly. He has been unable to drive his e-rickshaw for the past four days, affecting his daily income and livelihood. He lives with his elderly mother and is responsible for her care. He says the incident has left him physically unable to work and deeply distressed.

A hard rescue today as I got a message from a kind local lady who needed help with an old blind dog. The poor boy was most likely dumped in the area because the “end was close for him”. He was confused on the beach and stuck. He wouldn’t have lasted much longer were it not for their bravery. His vet results were about as bad as it gets. His eyes might be glaucoma as he can’t see a thing and his kidneys and liver are bad as well as severe anemia. His anemia is so bad we can’t even put him on a drip. While I was driving him around I just had to keep talking to him as his head would keep dropping. His body is so weak. He is also very hard to handle as he lashes out with bites as he can’t see what is going on around him. He is terrified. The ladies called him Rocky as they are hoping he will make a comeback. It won’t be easy at all but he did start eating, drinking and resting well this evening. We will all have to keep everything crossed for this lovely boy. Whatever happens he isn’t on his own and he has the best medical care now. Rocky even let me pet his head tonight. I think he understands he is safe.
