@SoulProvocateur Cast iron is great! Also no coffee or tea with meals bc tannins block iron absorption, but vit C with meals will increase uptake

@SoulProvocateur Not sure I want my iron to come from heavy metals. I think I’ll stick to red meat.

OK now let’s just think about this for a minute. If you cure a cast-iron pan properly, you are creating a glass like coating on top of the iron that helps make it nonstick. And yes, according to physicists the the coding is technically more like a glass than anything else. It is technically not a polymer (I have written about this on and in my books with the help of Professor Blonder of Boston ). So if the pan is properly cured, the food is not in contact with the iron. And even if it was, there would have to be some sort of chemical reaction to extract the iron. And even if it did, the amount of iron it would extract would be so minuscule it could not Under any circumstances on this planet, improve the iron content in your body.

@SoulProvocateur The iron from the skillet is not absorbed as efficiently as iron obtained from food. Avoiding caffeine and calcium food sources, and adding citric fruits (rich in vitamin C) in iron-rich meals is a better approach.

@SoulProvocateur Way to breeze past the most intimidating part about it - the cleaning. I am not reassured lol

@SoulProvocateur Teach us how to *properly clean* that seasoned cast iron skillet, and more likely to use.
