That style with the feet planted, the vertical jump, and steep shoulders puts tremendous strain on the lower back. Do you struggle with low point control? Tired of hitting the ball fat? Here is one common move that I see golfers do that causes low point issues! 🔹If the upper body moves off the golf ball too much, you will have a hard time getting the chest back on top of the ball at impact 🔹Work on staying more centred when you rotate your body in the backswing 🔹This will help stay over the ball and make it easier to have you body ahead of the ball at impact, moving low point forward and compressing the ball better Increased shaft lean, divot in front of the ball, compressed iron shots 👊🏼

I love how dumb the rules of golf are. You can’t get relief from a divot. But if standing on a sprinkler, you can get relief not only from a divot, but you can also move the ball from the rough to the fairway! Hovland right to do it, but silly rule.

At the start of this year, Phil Mickelson had a crushing ball speed of 165mph. Within 2 months he upped that to high 170’s and topping over 180. That’s an incredible jump for a man in his 50’s! He puts it down to training with speed sticks and explains how he has to change his release the faster he gets. “What I do notice is as I speed the swing up, I have to change the release point of my golf swing. I use length to create the leverage that I want, so it takes a lot of pressure off. But, as I do that, I have to change where the release is. But if I speed up, when I get down to the ball the face will be open. So I have to feel like I’m releasing the club a little bit earlier.” Lefty is a master at going deep in explaining the technicals of the golf swing. On this Memorial Day, let me share the single best tradition a golf club has. At The Patriot Golf Club, it is called 1300. At 1PM every day, Taps is played. Wherever you are on the course or locker room or restaurant, you stop and pay tribute to fallen soldiers. Then 13 bell tolls, one for each fold of the flag given to the families of fallen soldiers. It’s a powerful reminder of the cost of our daily freedoms. Thanks to my good friend David May Unknown Golf for the video.

SHANK FIX Now there are several causes of shanks, but one thing for certain, shanks are when the hossel of the club is delivered into the ball instead of the sweet spot. When on the course, if you suffer from one of these unfortunate shots, there are some “on the fly” strategies you can bring in, to prevent them from happening again. This video dives into a very easy practice swing that will give you the exact feel you need to have to avoid the heel of the club. In addition to this swing feel, have the thought to strike it on the toe of the club is also advisable. This will get you back to the sweet spot, where you want to be! It’s more efficient, more balanced, and far easier on the body—especially the lower back. Done correctly, it’s a swing you can play for a lifetime, not just your 30s and 40s.
