Been discussion on Blessing Adeoye Jr. of Kinda Funny taking issue with #Xbox going to Jez Corden of Windows Central, for new CEO Asha Sharma's interview. Don't think it's "jealousy" contrary to Xbox fandom musings. He listed numerous far more reputable journalists/outlets for the task, with no mention of Kinda Funny. Instead, think it's a matter of credibility and authenticity. Jez's often referred to as an Xbox and Microsoft "shill" with good reason (reasons later). Even by important figures such as Obsidian's co-founder. Xbox going to Jez signals they wanted controlled PR and favoured narratives, not opportunities for hard hitting insight or truth. Inadvertently very revealing. Xbox's moves this last week let us know how Xbox is still operating. +First Asha immediately begins aggressive toxic parasocial antics and "I'm one of you!" PR on social media that Xbox execs are famed for, to evangelise the fandom and have them run positive PR. +She creates a new Gamertag just a month ago with very irregular play, later admits it was a shared account played by others. +Her X responses seem robotic and inorganic. +Xbox have Tom Warren (another Xbox leaning journalist) of The Verge run a hit piece attempting to scapegoat Sarah Bond, which doesn't stand up to scrutiny. +In Satya Nadella's very long statement on the shake ups, Sarah Bond isn't mentioned once. +Asha's first interview is with Jez. +Messaging is a whole load of nothing. Teases things fans want to hear without actually committing to changes. What this all indirectly tells us is it's the same slippery and not so authentic Xbox, and we shouldn't really put much stock into anything they or their execs are currently saying. Only folk who are going to be won over by this controlled PR are the same naive echo chamber Xbox hopefuls who've fallen for or parrot every Xbox narrative/PR, despite countless flip flops, pivots and failings. So why's Jez Corden discredited or seen as an Xbox "shill" by so many? Myriad reasons. This is the same guy who said: +Development on Everwild was going well, gameplay loop was nailed and we'd see it soon, before it was cancelled shortly after. +He wasn't worried about The Initiative or Perfect Dark based on research he'd done, despite layoffs/Crystal Dynamics stuff. Was canned and studio shut shortly after. +Xbox wasn't porting games to PS5, rumour was fanboy hopium, before Xbox announced PS5 ports a few months later. +Implied all Laura Fryer worked on was Xbox One after her critical vid on Xbox, when she'd worked on OG Xbox and 360. +Physical games retail was dead in the UK after unfavourable Xbox sales, when data showed ~40% of sales of the Top 20 games were physical. +Said WuKong never mentioned Series S as a reason for Xbox version delay, implied it was a deal, despite WuKong director pinning blame on Series S. +Xbox might drop prices on games, only to suggest we knew price increases were coming when Xbox increased prices on GP. +No aspect of Halo rumours were true, when Halo moved to UE5 per rumours. +Rumours of Phil's retirement were made up, just months before he retired. +He'd never covered Avowed when called out, when he'd done an article hyping it. +Mischaracterised Tim Stuart's quote on bringing games to more platforms with clarification question to Phil on Game Pass instead of "first party experiences". +Sony's shown "no interest in mobile" when they acquired multiple mobile game studios, been open on mobile expansion and bringing more IP to mobile, set up a mobile gaming division in 2022 and have one of the worlds highest earning mobile games in Fate/Grand Order. +Promoted ABK acquisition and how good it'd be for devs/gamers, when Xbox has suffered 4k+ layoffs since (FAR higher than industry avg in % of total workforce), most in ABK, and GP has seen a 100% price increase in last 2+ years alone. I could go on and on. Point is, so much of the time Jez's running PR, defence and favoured narratives for Xbox, often with misinformation

Drew Brees says he missed out on more Super Bowl rings with Saints teams that were good enough to win it all. Marshawn Lynch: “What haven't you done on the football field?” Drew Brees: “No league MVPs.” Mike Robinson: “All them damn stats, you should have more Super Bowls than me. You got any regrets or seasons where you feel like, 'I could have done something here to get another ring?' 'Cause if you're in the game more, you win more.” Drew Brees: “We've all had experiences on teams where you felt like you were good enough to win it all, and it just didn't happen.” “Of the 20 years I played, there were at least three or four other teams that were good enough to win it all. In some cases, I felt like we truly had the best team in the league.” “That's what's unique about the NFL. Other leagues have seven-game series; we have one game. If you have an off night or circumstances don't go your way, it's over. You don't get a chance to come back.” “Take 2011, the most prolific offense in the history of the world. We ended up going to San Francisco and losing in a crazy game.” “Then 2017, the Minneapolis Miracle. We were rolling. If we win that game, we go to Philly, and we didn't fear them.” “2018 was the no-call at our place. In my opinion, we had the best team in football that year. If that call is made, we go play the Patriots in the Super Bowl.” “And then look at 2020, we were good enough to win it all that year, too.”

In the Fall of 1990, Nintendo Power held a contest for players to send in a photo of them finding WarMech, a very rare enemy found deep into Final Fantasy. While it's never been officially verified, there's some strong evidence that the winner of that contest was Chris Houlihan, and the prize was to get your name featured in a future Nintendo game. He was mentioned in one subsequent issue from 1998 as a contest winner in '92, Zelda's North American release year. As I'm learning while writing this, there's evidence that the winner was actually Chris's dad, immortalizing his son's name in one of the most unique video game stories out there. Kevin Hainline on YouTube posted a video with some fascinating insight and perspective on the story. ( In short, it seems that Chris was also named in the 1991 Game Boy version of Nintendo World Cup Soccer, where Terry was benched from the U.S. team in favor of the contest winner. The timing lines up really well. As for why his name is only found in the failsafe room in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, it probably lies with just the nature of game production. They clearly missed a deadline since they never gave Houlihan the later highlight that seemed to be the standard for the Power contests. Also if Kevin's story holds water, they were rightfully not happy with simply naming a team member "Chris" in a handheld title. So it actually makes sense his name gets put into this room. It's probably the highest caliber game they could add him to, in one of the only places the devs could reasonably put him. They had to have known some players would eventually find it, and it would be a mystery. I just wonder if anyone involved knew just how wonderfully complex and interesting it would be. The poetic thing is if everything I learned today is real, "Chris" appeared on the Game Boy, then appeared with his full name in the legendary SNES room, and now is book-ended with just "Houlihan" in Cadence of Hyrule on the Switch. A fascinating legacy spanning nearly three decades and consoles. #RetroGaming

5 Facts you didn't want to know about Alien Breed for the Commodore Amiga Alien Breed (1991) is a landmark Amiga title that defined Team17’s early style: tense, atmospheric, and brutally addictive. It was perfect for co-op gaming with mates. Programmed by Andreas Tadic and Peter Tuleby, with graphics by Rico Holmes and iconic music by Allister Brimble. 1. Top-down run-and-gun sci-fi shooter heavily inspired by Aliens: You (and a friend in co-op) explore an infested space station, blasting xenomorph-like aliens (I originally thought they were aliens) while managing limited ammo and health. It mixes fast arcade action with tense resource management. 2. Team17’s breakthrough hit: This was only their second game, after Full Contact, and their first full-price release. It put the UK developer and publisher on the map, before they became famous for the Worms series. 3. Extremely well-received on Amiga: Launched to critical acclaim, with many magazines scoring it 85–91% (CVG 91%, Zero 91%, CU Amiga 90%, Amiga Action 87%). It was usually praised for its smooth multi-directional scrolling, atmosphere, co-op play, and technical excellence on the Amiga. 4. Infamously difficult: The original game was notoriously tough and short, with only six levels. Because of this, Team17 later released Alien Breed Special Edition 92, with rebalanced difficulty, extra levels, and various fixes. In my opinion, it’s a much more enjoyable game. 5. No official Commodore 64 version: it was developed primarily for the Amiga, and the Commodore 64 never got a conversion :( Would you have played it? I would have big time! Still one of the best top-down shooters ever made on the Amiga. Who else remembers the panic when the ammo ran low and the aliens kept coming?

It is still blowing my mind that the new Lego Batman is a new Arkham game in nearly every single way. I literally cannot wait! Things to be hyped about in Lego Batman: - Open world Gotham City that isn't in a state of "lockdown", there are civilians all around the city for once! - Arkham style combat, described as being nearly identical and all your muscle memory will work from those games - The story covers nearly all Batman movies and big moments, I really adore this aspect and excited to see how its all integrated - Customizing the batcave is a dream come true - The Batmobile and bat bikes look so fun to drive, and actually being able to use the movie batmobiles like the tumbler or the muscle car from The Batman with movie-accurate engine sounds is impressive - Gotham City is massive, I definitely think this is much bigger than Arkham Knight, and it looks really detailed with a distinct style in each island - Having difficulty settings in a lego game for what I believe is the first time ever is a huge thing for me as I always thought they were too easy and wished there was an option to add challenge, which they finally have - Co-op is always fun, I do wish they had online co-op but I'll def play this in couch co-op with my brother Are y'all hyped for Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight? It's coming out super soon and I am hoping to have a review out for it as soon as possible, no review copy yet so I'll likely have a review out post-launch! It's releasing on May 19th for Deluxe Edition owners and May 22nd for everybody else!

[New Xbox Controller Review] #ad Special thanks to Qrdgame_offcial for supplying me with a review unit of their Ferrox M5 Xbox & PC Controller QRD Ferrox M5 The QRD Ferrox M5 is a Wireless Xbox One–style gamepad with a transparent design. Since it targets Xbox One natively, it works automatically on PC and Xbox Series S/X. The included 2.4Ghz USB Dongle also supports Switch and Android with the right adapter (USB C), but I was not able to test those in time for this review. A Wireless Xbox Controller The QRD FERROX M5 comes in a familiar Xbox layout with Hall Effect joysticks, RGB rings around the sticks, and a magnetic & detachable clear shell that shows the internals. The controller feels very similar to a standard Xbox pad in terms of shape and size, but it’s slightly lighter at compared to the usual Xbox controller weight. The lighter weight makes it easier to hold for longer sessions without hand fatigue. The D-Pad is surprisingly good at dialing special moves feels as solid and responsive as the official Xbox controller, and that’s impressive at a lower price point. I spent a few days trying out the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection exclusively using this controller and I did not notice any difference at all. Capabilities From what I’ve tested, the controller performs extremely well for action games, fighting games, and shooters. The Hall Effect joysticks offer smooth movement and precise control with no drift issues. The D-Pad uses micro switches, so every input is tactile and accurate. The back triggers support an adaptive “trigger stop” mode, which shortens the travel distance for faster reaction time in FPS games or quicker blocks in Fighting Games. You also get 4 back macro buttons, turbo mode, and adjustable joystick sensitivity with deadzone options. Vibration strength and RGB lighting modes are also customizable. What can it do The FERROX M5 includes an 800mAh battery that lasts around 8 hours of gameplay. It only uses the 2.4Ghz wireless connection, not Bluetooth, so it always requires the included USB Dongle. The good thing is once you sync it with your Xbox or PC, you don’t need to sync it again—it carries over between both devices automatically. The 2.4G connection is stable and low latency, and the controller has a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio and mic support. It also features a quick calibration system to keep sticks and triggers accurate over time. The overall grip and shape feel close to the official Xbox controller, comfortable for long gaming sessions, and the transparent shell gives it a distinct look. Areas of improvement I initially had trouble charging the controller while playing because connecting it to the Xbox via USB would disable all inputs, making it unusable in wired mode. But luckily QRD Support helped and provided me with an updat - I had to connect it to a PC, download the firmware tool from QRD’s website, and update the controller manually. After installing the new firmware, the controller can now charge while being used normally on Xbox, so the issue is fully resolved. The Xbox button also behaves differently on Xbox, where the single press acts like hold and the hold acts like single press; this issue doesn’t appear on PC. Syncing with the dongle took a few attempts on both Xbox and PC, but once paired, it never needed syncing again. The wireless mode is strictly 2.4G with no Bluetooth support, so it cannot connect without the dongle, though the benefit is that one pairing works across both Xbox and PC. Final Summary ✅ Hall Effect Joystick ✅ Lights in the dark ✅ Good D-Pad for input dialing ✅ Light Controller ❌ First sync can be annoying on PC ❌ No bluetooth for phone usage - Dongle is necessary ❌ Needs an update for the Xbox Wired issues which require a PC The Controller is available on Amazon for $59.99, and will be part of the Black Friday Deals on their official website for even more discount! Americans are being priced out of playing videos games and the reason is Data Centers The Nintendo Switch 2 is $500 A high-end Xbox is $800 The PlayStation 5 Pro is $900 It’s causing major shifts: - PlayStation is ending physical disks - NVIDIA GeForce is implementing a gaming cap for a maximum amount of hours played per month - XBox is divesting in 5 gaming studios Data Centers are buying and using so much RAM memory that one stick that used to cost $200 now costs over $1,000 “Huge increases across the board” 3 companies make almost all memory chips “these chips are really only made by about 3 companies in the entire world, and those 3 companies have limited output. So they have to decide, do they want to build high-end memory chips for AI data centers or consumer-grade memory chips for all of our devices? As you can probably guess, They didn't choose us. OpenAI reportedly committed to buying 40% of all the memory chips in the entire world just for their Stargate multi-state data center project. For memory chip companies, this was a huge payday, but it meant absolute scarcity for consumer memory chips, which of course means massive price increases for you and I” Gaming companies aren’t going to invest in next gen consoles that will only sell a fraction of the amount of previous consoles because of price. It wouldn’t make sense because game developers are going to focus on the consoles with all the users, the older consoles So gaming console manufacturers are moving towards new revenue streams like controlling how you can buy a game, more subscription costs and more

Max very eloquently describes the ambiguous intangibles that come from learning a fighting game you care about. These hit even closer to home on fighting games you end up liking more than expected. Imagine, if you will, the 1st time you booted up your favorite fighting game ; ------------------------------ The publisher and dev logos show up, maybe a dope trailer to intro the first time you turn the game on, then the title screen with a "PRESS ANY BUTTON TO START" or something like that. You find your way to a story mode or arcade mode and are filled with excitement on where this journey will take you. No matter what path you take you know that you signed up for an experience where you get to control and basically BECOME a character that kicks ass. Maybe after a while you decide to jump into training mode and start labbing, "I should really figure out a combo or two" because you don't want to mash forever. And then finally, you jump online. After grinding games for what felt like just a few minutes, you realize hours have passed, you're addicted. The grind only goes on harder and maybe you even find out about locals or tournaments in your area. Perhaps you even discover MAJORS - basically tournaments so large in scale that people from all over the world attend. Your competitive drive is at an all time high and then, suddenly, you hit it. The Wall - coined by Brian_F Now every game you lose, every local player that edges the win over you, ever single mistake just feels so heavy... It's because you are stuck. You are not growing. You are stagnating. And it sucks. It really sucks. I coach a lot of students and it's one of the hardest things to explain to someone "You're doing everything right, you just have to do it a - a bit quicker - a bit more confidently - with intent These are the intangibles, the hardest things to teach but the things that become so critical at the highest level, where inches become miles in terms of player skill. It gets so frustrating too because by this point, it's so tough to have fun when you just keep losing. You can't go back to day 1, at least not physically. Knowledge is a burden – once taken up, it can never be discarded - Stephen Lawhead Awareness is step one though and although it can feel incredibly suffocating, once you push through your plateau in fighting games you truly unlock a part of yourself that feels untouchably satisfied with all levels of play.
