Because he knew it was true. He spent 3 minutes explaining what Jobs actually taught him: The first lesson: Focus. "This sounds really simplistic. But it still shocks me how few people actually practice it." "Steve was the most remarkably focused person I've ever met in my life." "Focus is not something you aspire to. Palmer Luckey on what he looks for when hiring people at Anduril “The most important advice that I can give people is to work on projects that you care about. Don’t look to school — whether it’s college or the state-mandated educational system. Sam Altman on the importance of momentum and why burnout doesn’t come from working too hard “I was told, and I thought for a long time, that you get burned out from working too hard. At least in my own experience, what I’ve found is that burnout actually comes from failing and things not working.” Sam continues: “Momentum is really energizing. The lack of momentum is super draining. The reason that you don't have certain excellence that you want is because you are afraid of getting criticized. You are afraid of the judgment that comes with it. You are afraid of standing out. You are afraid of being alone. You are afraid of people looking at you. You are worried about what people think of you. There are 2 categories of things in this world: 1) Things that are up to you 2) Things that are not up to you Which category does your reputation sit in? Your reputation is not up to you. I'm the one who associates your reputation with something, not you. You just do things. What's up to you? How you act. Your decisions. Your actions. That is up to you. Your reputation is not up to you. Here's how I know that: You all have a reputation about me and it's not in my control. I get to say and do whatever I say and do up here. I am in control of saying it. I am in control of doing it. The moment words leave my lips, who has control over what is done with those words? You! You are in control of what you think of me. And there's no way everybody in this room is going to think the exact same thing about me. No way. When it comes to exceptional, what we've got to understand is you can spend your whole life trying to avoid criticism and earn reputation, and it still won't be in your control. Do you have any rules for working together or for being partners? 💚: For me, I wouldn’t really call them rules. I think it’s more like basic things that should already be there. For example, Love and I give each other space. When it comes to personal matters, we don’t interfere unless we come to each other for advice. We don’t have to ask things like, ‘Hey, what are you doing today?’ or anything like that. It’s not necessary to that extent. When we’re working, we focus on work. But when we’re apart, that’s our personal space, and that’s already okay. That alone is enough. 🐻: a [life] tip for someone turning 20? well… this is more of a lifelong tip than specifically for your 20s, but you have to life doing all the things you want! of course we can’t always be only doing the things that we want, but whenever possible, try turning the things you do into what you wanna do or doing the things that are actually aligned with what you like. i think it’d be good to fill in your life with the things you wanna do as much as possible 🐻: would life become more enjoyable once i turn 30? hmm, nope! coming from an experienced artist, i think this is the most genuine and meaningful compliment one could ever give to yuta. thank you jaejoong 🙏🏻 love their friendship 🥹 JJ: the reason why is, i think just doing what you’re told to and just going with the flow, its like theres no sense of preparing for the future in that. but when idols start thinking about their future & their music, and when they're at a point where they start to think on how they can grow, i think that is really admirable. for example, a friend named yuta from nct, he's been doing some solo activities in rock music. i heard that he will be on tour this year too. 👤: you really keep up with the junior artists who are doing rock music arent you? JJ: it's nice. it makes me feel really excited & happy, and like i wanna go & watch their perfomance/ concert too!! so when i see things like that, i think these kinds of attempts which is not just about the rock genre, or about the music that will sell well and get many streams, but just the fact that artists are willing to attempt on a challenge, even when they know there might be risks. this kind of mindset alone is something that i'm really thankful for. it makes me think that the work/ things i do, and even for the junior artists who are starting to try out, i just want to say to them that "we did well' and applause them for it 👏🏻 "
