Goths can be conservative now because things change

To be goth is to conserve that which came before, the beauty of the gothic, so it's never lost to time. Goth can only be Conservative. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

What about those of us who have been goth and conservative for 30+ years? Some of us have always been able to reconcile both with common sense and good taste.

Goth has always just been a way to express yourself, regardless of what is expressed. It's merely HOW it's expressed. Whether someone was conservative at the beginning (they were) or just getting into now, it's all the same to Goth.

The Overton window hasn't merely shifted...it has been violently dragged leftward by decades of cultural erosion, where yesterday's sane center is now demonized as "far-right extremism." Goth essence was never about slavish alignment with the progressive herd; it was defiant individualism, romantic embrace of the macabre, unapologetic aesthetic sovereignty against the banal daylight world. Today, that same unyielding spirit aligns inexorably with conservatism: a bulwark against the tyrannical orthodoxy of woke matriarchy, gender dissolution, and enforced mediocrity. The true nonconformists are no longer the blue-haired conformists chanting slogans...they are us, the shadowed guardians of beauty, tradition, and unflinching truth. Make Goth Great Again is not nostalgia; it is reclamation. A ferocious return to authentic darkness. I salute you, and agree completely.

I have been saying this for a while. Goth, punk, metal, and all counter culture that is based in anti-authoritarianism is completely incompatible with the modern left.

Yes. My sister is/was hard core punk rock -- 12" purple Mohawk, screamed in a punk band, mad tatts, the works. She's as "conservative" (aka: a liberal from the '60's) as I am.

We literally had "Rage Against The Machine" supporting Hillary Clinton. Just change your band name to Rage FOR The Machine at that point, you cannot get more establishment swamp-monster than the fucking Clintons. We need a reform in the alt / rock / metal community already😂

That they do. I’m what I would call a retired goth punk here. Not by choice. Medical injuries required cost cutting and comfort clothing. I do not belong to a major party, but the bulk of my views are conservative. Back in the day individuality and refusing to conform to the system were part of the scene. They have tried taking that away from us. I will keep my music taste no matter what. It is game on. More need to step up. ✊👊

I will never forget the day my goth ass was one of two kids to stand up in Government class when their political party results were Conservative. Just me and the preppy Prom King. Government teacher (suuuuper Lib) told me she'd have never guessed.

Some in alt cultures have ALWAYS been.. I never felt unwelcome in the goth industrial clubs in LA back in the day. I didn’t change. The inflammatory behavior of cUlTuRe and the self imposed arbiters of such did.

Many goths were always conservative. I won't get into it much cause you're awesome. But yeah ...

I think a lot of it is age and wisdom/experience. What’s the old saying? “If you're not a liberal when you're 25, you have no heart; if you're not a conservative by 35, you have no brain.”

The political field has changed, and people in it have determined what you should believe in order to still stand among them. That is what I reject. It just so happens that today those more right of far-left happen to be where the independent thought is.

when you say goth I think the Germanic tribes whom also gave rise to gothic architecture and such they were conservative

I have NEVER considered Goths to be just liberal or conservative.....they are just 'Goth'. TBH....just about some of the most chill people you come across. They do their thing and leave others alone.
