Gov. Bob Ferguson unveiled a proposal that would require Washington students to store phones and smart devices away from them during the school day beginning in September 2027. The proposed Phone-Free Schools Act is among Ferguson’s priorities for the upcoming legislative session, and he plans to prefile the governor-requested... show more

Now teachers are safe from getting caught.

Bob wants to make double sure that there are no recordings of what really goes on in WA classrooms. Recordings of classrooms should be standard and available to parents upon request.

No! Kids need to record the unsafe and inappropriate staff at these indoctrination camps.

is so full of 💩. Tell your kids to keep phone for safety. BLAH-BLAH: What he says out loud: teens spend about a quarter of the school day on phones, about 41 lost instructional days a year, and phones hurt focus, attendance, and mental health. He calls them borderline addictive. About three-quarters of Washington districts already have some rule. He wants one statewide rule so Washington is not last. At least 31 states already restrict phones in school. 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 What he has not said: he has not said this is to stop kids filming teachers, fights, curriculum, or gender policies. A phone in a pouch cannot record any of that. That is the side effect of a first-bell-to-last-bell ban, whether or not it is the motive. A classroom-only rule would have left the hallway and lunch open. This one does not.

So kids can't prove that their teachers are inappropriate operatives in real time.

So add back in Resource Officers to protect our children. Removing protections and communication from schools makes them a target. 🎯 No one can call 911? No one can defend themselves. Only democrats are this dumb.

So kids can't record the perverted teachers harassing them with sexual content and their own sick sexual preferences and political biases that theyre continue shoving down these kids' throats.

One more step to keep you from knowing what is happening to your kids at school. I would be okay with this if I trusted teachers to have my kids best interest but they don't. It's all about sex and liberal indoctrination now.

that way the pedophilic staff can prey on students!!

With the insanity going on in schools these days, I would never allow my child to be without a phone The instructor can simply say turn off your phone, put your phone in your backpack/desk/pocket, do not access it during class our you will be removed from class & have detention

Wow talk getting to work on those high priority issues..... isnt he just best Komo? Why waste time on the real issues facing Washington and Seattle when we can deflect and pander. What's it like being owned by the Democrat party Komo?

Government overreach!

While I agree that phones are distractions in school. The reason democrats want this is because the amount of teachers, assistants, and administrators who have been recorded saying and or doing things they don’t want parents and public to know.

Bob Ferguson @JayInslee and the Demo-rats closed the schools for YEARS and banned necessary therapy for children with disabilities. WA Demo-rats are evil scumbags. #PrisonForCOVIDTyrants

Now that he doesn't want proof what teacher's are teaching our kids. This should have happened years ago.

Proper indoctrination needs you to turn your phone over...

So the pedo’s can indoctrinate and not be recorded.

So you're worried about school shootings but you're going to take students' phones away from them....you don't think those phones are a line of defense against school shootings????? You're a moron Bob Fergusonastan

Public schools will continue to be a mess regardless.

He’s a whacko…Seattle’s governor.

Cue the burner phones

Cannot collect video evidence without the cameras.

Finally! Something that actually makes sense.

Good. A phone put away is not an emergency; it is a school day. But September 2027 is a long runway, and parents should not treat legislation as a substitute for boundaries at home. Schools can protect class time while families start reclaiming dinner, homework, and bedtime now.

No thank you comrade

I’m all for cell phones being off limits during school but the fact the government stepped in is over reach.

This isnt what we need.

What tax goes along with this measure?

Wow. Something Sideshow Bob is doing that I can get behind. Can someone make a quick call to hell and see if it’s frozen-over down there?

Worried about protecting the teachers union?
