A newly released video shows two men attacking a 77-year-old man who was walking down the street in downtown Seattle last month. The incident was captured by the city's Real Time Crime Center surveillance cameras, which monitor public areas that have been identified as crime hot spots. In the video, the victim is seen walking slowly southbound on Third Avenue, approaching a pharmacy at the corner of Pike Street. Without any prior interaction, two men shove the man to the ground and punch him, the video shows. They are then seen walking away from the man, who is left hunched over on the ground as bystanders walk past him. Former Gov. Gary Locke said Washington voters should focus on how a proposed millionaire's tax would be spent rather than simply whether it passes. Locke said the state is already facing a budget shortfall and says the new tax alone would not generate enough revenue to cover both existing obligations and proposed new programs. He questioned whether lawmakers would ultimately need to raise additional taxes or reduce spending if projected revenues fall short. Homeowners in Bellevue are raising concerns about noise from Sound Transit’s new 2 Line light rail trains operating on the elevated span between Mercer Island and Bellevue. Residents claim train noise has exceeded local standards and is disrupting nearby neighborhoods. A letter sent to Sound Transit alleges some trains have produced noise levels more than three times higher than surrounding vehicle traffic and above 80 decibels. Sound Transit confirmed it received the homeowners’ letter but said it could not comment because of potential legal issues and ongoing litigation concerns.

A final vote has now changed what drivers will pay every time they use two specific toll roads. For some motorists, the price will soon be cut in half. For everyone else, the bill will stay the same. In a 6-0 vote, members of the Washington State Transportation Commission created the state's first low-income toll discount program for the SR 509 and SR 167 Expressways. Qualifying drivers will receive a 50% discount off the standard Good To Go! toll rate for two-axle vehicles. State transportation officials will begin enrolling eligible drivers this fall, with the reduced rates taking effect as early as December. A man arrested in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a baby at Pike Place Market will not face felony charges, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. In an email to KOMO News, the prosecutor's office said that after further investigation, the Seattle Police Department determined the case did not meet the legal standard for a felony charge. A campaign to defeat Initiative 645 launched Tuesday, with a boost from the governor and a major labor union, setting up what is expected to be one of Washington's most expensive and closely watched ballot fights this fall. The "No on 645" campaign, joined by Gov. For the first time in more than half a century, the city of Seattle went the entire month of June without a single homicide. The city has recorded 15 homicides this year, continuing the trend of a reduction in homicides since the record of 74 in 2023. The most recent homicide was a 17-year-old boy who investigators say was shot by a 13-year-old in south Seattle. "From June 1 through June 30, no one lost their life to homicide in our city," Seattle police Chief Shon Barnes told KOMO News. Seattle police have arrested a suspect in the murder of a University of Washington student. Juniper Blessing, a 19-year-old student and transgender woman, was found dead with stab wounds in a laundry room at the Nordheim Court Apartments – off-campus housing for UW students – Sunday night. The arrest came hours after the Seattle Police Department (SPD) released photos of a suspect on Wednesday, described as armed and dangerous. SPD confirmed to KOMO News that the man in the photos is the same man who was arrested. According to Seattle police Det. Brian Pritchard, the 31-year-old man — later identified as Christopher Leahy — turned himself in to Bellevue police before being transferred to SPD detectives. Over 6,000 bicyclists are riding in the Seattle to Portland (STP) Bicycle Classic. Drivers should expect delays along the route of the ride through Sunday evening, The annual recreational ride is the largest multi-day bicycle event in the northwest, covering 207 miles and over 5,000 feet in elevation gain. A Bellevue mansion is at the center of a major human trafficking investigation.
