HOUSTON — A second driver has died after a horrific wrong-way crash that shut down the eastbound lanes of the Katy Freeway for hours overnight. Houston police say a BMW traveling the wrong way slammed head-on into a Tesla Cybertruck near the Washington/Westcott exit just after midnight. Investigators believe the BMW was heading west in the eastbound lanes of I-10 when it hit the Cybertruck, causing the BMW to burst into flames. The impact sent the Cybertruck into a nearby semi. We received multiple calls of a driver going in the wrong direction and causing a crash on 6th Ave. Upon talking to the wrong way driver, our Agents immediately suspected that alcohol was involved. The driver believed he was on I-25 at 104th, a far cry from Lakewood. He was arrested and it was found that the driver had already been convicted of DUI four times. Thankfully no major injuries were reported, but this situation could’ve been a lot worse. A DUI doesn't care what time it is. Neither does the law.

According to the original incident report, two deputies responded to an agency assist after reports of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-15 near mile marker 263. Deputies located the vehicle near mile marker 269. One deputy struck the driver’s side of the vehicle, spinning it into another deputy’s patrol car, which prevented the wrong-way vehicle from reentering traffic.
