I've been asked to review and provide thoughts on the question of a potential targeting call in the Hardin-Simmons Cowboy Football / UMHB Football🏈 #d3fb game Saturday. I have synced up two videos -- one from UMHB's broadcast and one posted by In The (D3FB) Huddle contributor Riley Conlee (Riley Conlee) (if he could provide credit to the videographer of it, I'd appreciate it). There is a full-speed view and a 20% speed view of the central action included in the video. To evaluate targeting, we have to review both aspects of the rule to see what, if anything, qualifies. I want to provide the entire set of rules (9-1-3 & 9-1-4): "Targeting and Making Forcible Contact With the Crown of the Helmet ARTICLE 3. No player shall target and make forcible contact against an opponent with the crown of their helmet. The crown of the helmet is the top segment of the helmet; namely, the circular area defined by a 6-inch radius from the apex (top) of the helmet. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul. (Rule 9-6) (A.R. 9-1-3-I) Targeting and Making Forcible Contact to Head or Neck Area of a Defenseless Player ARTICLE 4. No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent (See Note 2 below) with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6). (A.R. 9-1-4-I-VI) Note 1: “Targeting” means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball. This includes an offensive player in a passing posture with focus downfield. - A receiver attempting to catch a forward pass or in position to receive a backward pass, or one who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect themselves or has not clearly become a ball carrier. - A kicker in the act of or just after kicking a ball, or during the kick or the return. - A kick returner attempting to catch or recover a kick, or one who has completed a catch or recovery and has not had time to protect themselves or has not clearly become a ball carrier. - A player on the ground. - A player obviously out of the play. - A player who receives a blind-side block. - A ball carrier already in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped. - A quarterback any time after a change of possession - A ball carrier who has obviously given themselves up and is sliding feet- first. - A player attempting to recover a loose ball." We need to start at Note 2 to see if Kyle Brown qualified here as a "defenseless player." If not, then 9-1-4 would not apply to him here. Kyle was not a receiver or a passer per se here -- he was clearly a runner downfield and was not in the grasp of any player. As a result, he was not "defenseless" by definition. That means that the only way targeting can be called here is if the provisions of Rule 9-1-3 were violated. Rule 9-1-3 is VERY specific about the initial requirement before we can go to the question of a required indicator: "No player shall target and make forcible contact against an opponent with the crown of their helmet." The crown of the helmet is "the top segment of the helmet, specifically the circular area with a 6-inch radius from the apex (top) of the helmet." In the videos, we see a couple of telling signs. First, Kyle appeared to actually lower HIS helmet as the contact became imminent, which is something coaches advise against for a variety of reasons, including self-preservation. But what is telling is that the UMHB defender attempted to peel off as he saw the angle of the contact he was heading toward with Brown. Specifically, he appeared to end up perpendicular to Brown, perhaps catching Brown's facemask enough to cause the helmet to fly. Yet, that contact was NOT with the defender's crown. As a result, since Brown was not defenseless by rule and because the crown of the helmet was not used for forcible contact to the head/neck area, the picking up of the flag by the officials was appropriate. That said, I spoke with an official who reviewed the videos without commentary and who landed in the same spot as I did concerning the above. They stated that if immediate replay review was available, crews will generally throw the flag and go to review (here, it likely would have been overturned by review, preserving the defender's eligibility). Since the ASC is not providing the on-field replay review yet, the officials' decision would have impacted the game by ejecting a player for the last 6 minutes of the first half until a Halftime review would have been available. For those wondering about how replay is impacting the game, I think this is a good reminder of the nuances it can impact.

3B Kevin Bazzell (Texas Tech Baseball) is sneaky one of the best pure hitters in this year's Draft class. In his first full collegiate season, he slashed .348/.453/.572 with 24 2B, 10 HR, 62 RBI, and more BB (45) than K (32). Tied the program record for most doubles in a season and was named First Team All-Big 12. Extremely simple setup in the box with a minimal stride and slight barrel tip. No wasted movement, takes a direct path to the baseball. Does an excellent job of consistently staying inside the ball. Level swing, barrel is in the hitting zone for a while. Hit over power profile, but the hit tool is a strong 60 with above average power to the pull side. Has an advanced approach along with plus bat-to-ball skills and plus feel for the barrel. Last season he worked a 92% overall IZ contact rate, including an absurd 96% IZ contact rate against FB. Converted catcher, can pick it over at 3B and continues to get better with time. Has a plus arm and has shown comfortability attacking the baseball. Hard worker who keeps his head down and is a darn good player. Potential top-2 round pick this July.

From the same dark wizard, jnmartin84, who brought you Doom64 fully bump mapped at 60FPS on the console, comes the first official release of Wipeout DC, clocking in at a paltry 61-256FPS! This footage is a series of direct HW captures from me playing it on my DC (which is why the player is always in 8th place, lol). As you can see, jnmartin's signature attention to every minute detail, from audio to graphics, and especially performance, is as present as ever. We DC devs have always laughed our asses off watching this man cook in our dev Discord server, as his combination of humility and swearing every time the FPS drops to 59 is not only absolutely hilarious, but is truly an inspiration to the rest of us to aspire to polish and fine-tune our work to only the highest quality for the Sega Dreamcast. Anthony Silva (TCU Baseball) is perhaps the best true Shortstop in the entire 2024 Draft Class. Silva exploded onto the scene in 2023 as a Freshman, sporting an impressive .330/.416/.471 slash line with 11 2B, 7 HR, and 50 RBI. Was TCU's every day SS from the get-go. Named a First Team Freshman All-American and earned an invitation to Team USA's Collegiate National Team. Pro-like frame at 6'2", 200-pounds. Figures to add some impact as he continues to mature physically. Stands nearly upright in the box with a relaxed, medium-high handset. Normal load and stride, it's a smooth and rhythmic operation with a direct path to contact. Bat-to-ball skills are plus with an 88% IZ contact rate, including 89% against FB. Improving pitch recognition skills, mainly in terms of picking up spin, will be key! Feasts on heaters: in 2023 slashed .360/.418/.460 against FB 92+. Silva's calling card is his defense. Legitimate plus defender at SS with excellent actions and instincts. Athleticism really shines. Ample range both up the middle and to the backhand side. Comfortable throwing on the run and from multiple arm slots. Arm is above average. Slow heartbeat type player, knack for making the big play in a key moment. With a standout sophomore campaign, Silva has a chance to be a top-20 overall pick.

The vehicle that hit her was an Orange Camaro, we do have the plates and owner's information but will be withholding that to allow them the opportunity to come forward. These sideshow events are not just 'kids' out 'having fun'. They are illegal, and they are dangerous, often involving drugs, weapons, and alcohol, not to mention the reckless driving behaviors. Hey followers. Can’t wait for the #ConcertforCarolina tonight at Bank of America Stadium. So proud to see country music star Luke Combs 🎤 with some help from Allen Bestwick and a host of others put together this event to benefit those impacted by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. I mean, Billy Strings, Eric Church, Keith Urban, @SherlCrow, The Avett Brothers and so many others all together for a common cause. It blows my mind. I’ve been in the Asheville area multiple times since the storm and the funds are greatly needed to rebuild. But for the long-term survival of restaurants, small businesses, galleries, breweries – you name it -- the region needs you to return as soon as possible. That part hit home with me a few weeks ago at a fundraiser concert put on by the Steep Canyon Rangers Rangers, the Grammy winning band from Asheville. Graham Sharp, banjo and song-writer extraordinaire, reminded of the need for tourism to return with a passionate and heartfelt message at the end. It was another reality check among a plethora of reality checks the past month since Helene. Graham was gracious enough to send me a video echoing those thoughts that I want to share with all of you, whether you are going to the concert tonight or not. Today we have a direct hardware capture of an upcoming Sega Dreamcast homebrew title, tentatively known as "DemoTek," from developer, ac3t1ne, whose goal is to create a Crash Bandicoot-style platformer. The game uses our GLdc implementation of OpenGL 1.2 for rendering, libADX for music, and with my own SH4ZAM library for vector math, all of which are first-party ports provided within the KallistiOS indie DC SDK. The engine already features a renderer with some fairly aggressive batching and pre-submission culling, some clever LOD tricks and frame blending (notice the lava animates at twice the FPS when the player is close to it), as well as a particle system, which drives the smoke and bubbles. Something that I find quite interesting and exciting is that ac3t1ne has also managed to create a kind of update manager which can check for newer versions of the game (or any other Dreamcast binary), then download it via dial-up modem or broadband adapter, and install it onto an SD card! Have I Mentioned It's Great That Lindsey Graham Is Dead? Lindsey Graham’s funeral was today, and as I watch all the worst people in the world express their grief at the loss of their dear darling friend, I find myself awash with gratitude that this particular warmonger lived a shorter life than such creatures often do. Some psychopathic murderers never stop killing until they are imprisoned or dead. Since American war criminals never go to prison, it is a fortunate thing that Graham kicked the bucket when he did. Filmmaker Alex Holder has shared video footage from an unreleased documentary he’d been working on in which the late South Carolina senator is seen gushing orgasmically at Trump’s February announcement of the US-Israeli war on Iran. “Look what we’ve done here. I almost cried. How long have we been pushing this?” Graham says with joyous laughter while the president’s announcement plays on the television, adding, “There are a lot of people inside who didn’t want to do it, so I had my challenges.” “I talked to Trump this morning, he’s jacked, he said, ‘best thing I have ever done.’ He loves blowing stuff up,” Graham said triumphantly. Holder also released footage of Graham speaking with Joe Biden’s former national security advisor Jake Sullivan back in March, assuring him that the Iranian government was going to start losing control of the country in “three to four weeks”. So we know he lived long enough to see himself proven wrong, just as all US warmongers eventually are. Meanwhile The New York Times has a new report out citing Holder’s footage detailing how Graham colluded with Benjamin Netanyahu to assemble a bipartisan group of US lawmakers to denounce the International Criminal Court’s investigation into the Israeli prime minister’s mass atrocities in Gaza. Graham’s ability to pull strings in Washington is placed on full display as we see how the senator skillfully moves everyone into place, joking with Netanyahu that “I should get tons of shekels” for all the moves he was pulling off to protect the prime minister. At his funeral on Tuesday, Graham’s favorite president Donald Trump was seen dozing through the proceedings before getting up to eulogize the deceased lawmaker with the words “He was extremely hawkish; I will tell you, he never saw a war that he didn’t like.” Hilariously, Fox News war propagandist Sean Hannity followed the president’s comments saying “Lindsey, he was often unfairly characterized as a warmonger; I’ve heard that false criticism a lot.” To be clear, in the months leading up to his unexpected demise, Lindsey Graham had advocated for direct US military interventionism in Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, Yemen, Nigeria, Lebanon, and Palestine. He died shortly after celebrating his 71st birthday at a Ukrainian drone factory. If Lindsey Graham was not a warmonger, then nobody has ever been a warmonger.
