***Chief Garcia providing sound regarding a critical police incident – officer involved shooting that occurred this morning.*** The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating a critical police incident-officer involved shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in East Fort Worth. On May 16, 2026, at approximately 4:15 a.m., FWPD East Division officers were on scene working a previous officer involved shooting near the 4200 block of Wiman Drive. While still investigating the shooting, a white SUV drove by multiple times at a high rate of speed. It appeared the driver was attempting to hit officers standing near their vehicles. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to stop. Officers pursued the SUV for approximately 15 minutes and eventually stopped the vehicle with a tactical vehicle intervention, also known as a PIT maneuver. Officers then approached the vehicle with their guns drawn and gave multiple verbal commands. The adult male subject did not comply with the officers’ orders and grabbed an officer’s handgun. At that point, multiple officers fired their guns and struck the suspect. Medical aid was provided by officers until the Fort Worth Fire Department arrived on scene. The male was pronounced deceased on scene. A Fort Worth Police Officer was injured during this incident and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. It is unknown at this point how the officer was injured. The officer is listed in good condition. Detectives from the Major Case unit were called to the scene and are continuing the investigation. On December 24, 2025, at about 4:40 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a call for service in the 100 block of E Camp Wisdom Road. The preliminary investigation determined that a female was attempting to jump off a bridge near the location. Upon arrival, Senior Corporal Timothy Griffin, #11958 and Police Officer Carlos Gomez, #12963 observed the female seated extremely closed to the edge of the bridge. Officers recognized the immediate danger and quickly approached the female to secure her. Officers were able to grab and hold the female by one of her arms as she went over the edge and was hanging above the S.R.L. Thornton Freeway. Officers immediately requested additional cover units as they maintained physical control of the female. Sergeant Randall Mays, #10285 arrived on scene and assisted Senior Corporal Griffin and Police Officer Gomez to safely pull back the female over the railing. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and transported the female to a local hospital for treatment. Senior Corporal Griffin and Officer Gomez placed themselves in imminent danger without hesitation to ensure the safety of the female. Without their decisive and selfless actions, the female would have likely sustained serious injury or death. The swift, decisive, and selfless actions of these officers exemplify the Dallas Police Department’s commitment to protecting life and serving our community, especially in moments when compassion and courage matter most.

In the wake of the Manchester Airport incident, where an armed officer was suspended after a video showed him using force during an arrest, the rush to judgment is not only unjust but perilous for public safety. The full video release, which clearly shows the officer being violently assaulted before responding, underscores a critical issue. The growing trend of scrutinising police actions without considering the full context or immediate threats faced by officers. The video footage from Manchester Airport reveals a chaotic and dangerous situation. The officer dazed after being punched in the head three times, found himself in a fight for survival. The aggressive behaviour of the suspect necessitated a rapid and forceful response. According to principles governing police use of force, officers are entitled to defend themselves and others from imminent harm. When under assault, the officer’s priority was to neutralise the threat swiftly, a decision made in split seconds and under extreme duress. Critics argue that the force used was excessive, but it's crucial to understand the legal framework. Armed officers are trained to respond proportionately to threats. In situations where their own lives or the lives of others are at immediate risk, what may appear excessive in hindsight can be entirely justified. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the incident, considering all circumstances, including the severity of the assault on the officer and the perceived threat. This incident is symptomatic of a broader, troubling trend. The tendency to vilify police officers without due process. Immediate public outrage, often fuelled by incomplete footage or social media snippets, leads to premature judgments and severe consequences for the officers involved. This witch hunt mentality not only demoralises the police force but also emboldens criminals who see a weakened, scrutinised police presence as an opportunity. The witch hunt against police is not an isolated phenomenon. It is part of a larger strategy employed by certain groups to manipulate public perception and cry wolf. Consider the case of Bailey and the Syrian bully in Huddersfield, where a fabricated narrative was constructed around the alleged bullying of a Syrian boy. The ensuing media frenzy and public outcry were based on misleading information, weaponising the boy's background to generate sympathy, and vilifying the supposed aggressor. This tactic is being used again in the Manchester Airport incident, where Muslim groups are quick to label the police response as racist and ignoring the violent assault on the officer. By crying wolf and manipulating public sentiment, these groups undermine legitimate law enforcement efforts and create an environment where officers are hesitant to act, fearing backlash and accusations of bias. When police officers are hesitant to act out of fear of suspension or legal repercussions, public safety is compromised. Officers must have the confidence that they can perform their duties without facing undue persecution. The constant second-guessing of their split-second decisions can lead to hesitation, endangering both officers and the public they are sworn to protect. The Manchester Airport incident should serve as a reminder of the complexities and dangers of police work. Instead of rushing to condemn, we should ensure that our officers are supported and that their actions are judged fairly, considering the full context and the immediate threats they face. The witch hunt against police officers, often fuelled by manipulative tactics and false accusations, not only undermines their ability to protect us but also threatens the very fabric of public safety. It's time to stand by our police and ensure they have the support and respect they need to do their jobs effectively.
