Great news, everyone! I've got the engine for my courses & labs platform done ❤️🔥 It's a full-blown distributed system with Firecracker on the very end and a Nuxt app on the front. Here is what three months of nights and weekends look like (the design is not final,... show more

On to the content now! Think of it as my blog, LeetCode, and Katacoda combined. Or maybe even CodinGame at times (if you know what I'm talking about). It's gonna be a totally different learning experience for everyone who wants to master containers, Kubernetes, and the like 🚀

Interesting! Will follow this one!

I’ll keep you posted 😉

@_ediri nice ... and Firecracker runs well on WSL2, so you'll get the Windows armada behind too 😇

@_ediri You mean if I were to package this platform into something other users may install? Because at the moment, it's a distributed server-side monster.

Is it open source? I was literally looking for something like this yesterday.

Have you run across After Katacoda's sunset, this is my way to go for ephemeral playgrounds. At least until I deploy my own platform. And no, mine is not open-source, but I'll likely make some parts of it open (e.g. scripts that I use to build rootfs's)

This looks dope 🤯🧠

TailwindCSS can do wonders! 😂

Fantastic!!

Yay! 🙌

Oh damnn this looks really amazing!

Appreciate your kind words, Leon! 🙌

Awesome buddy looks intuitive

Thanks! This is just the basic functionality I’ll be building on top of. The idea is to bring more visuals, and interactive exercises sprinkled with a bit of theory.

I agree, looking for k8 detailed zero down deployments ,will watch out for notifications

The topic has been noted (and it’s a great one)!

looks great!

Is the terminal UI coming from a library? How is the firecracker instance getting connected to the browser?

It’s kinda complex :) Something like this: xterm.js (browser) -> websocket -> custom Go(lang) server -> PTY-controlled ssh client -> sshd (firecracker)

It’s not gotty then?

I didn't use gotty because I needed lots of custom logic related to playground management in this piece of code, but the architecture is similar. You can think of it as `gotty -> ssh client -> microVM's sshd`

this is awesome!

@Aurelictic Much appreciated! ☺️

Looking forward to learn from it

nice!!

Thanks Peter! 🙌

That’s awesome, Ivan - we’ll done!

Thanks, Dan! 🙌

Looks awesome Ivan! Congrats! 🎉 👏

Thanks, Sid! Appreciate your kind words 🙌

Can't wait!!!!

What is the chrome theme you are rocking? Looks amazing

Oh, it's been a while... Chrome says I use

Keep up the good work, can't wait to try this out

Hopefully I’ll make it availability for beta-testers in a month or two. And the patrons will get access even earlier.

@urlichsanais Can't wait for this 😍😍🔥🔥🔥

Congrats Ivan, cannot wait to try it.

Thanks! It’ll likely be opened for beta testers in a month or two, and the patrons will get access even sooner.

Amazing, learning the t̶r̶a̶d̶i̶t̶i̶o̶n̶a̶l̶ practical way.

To the point! 💯

This is pretty cool !! Thanks for all the efforts you have put behind this platform.. kudos 👏

Thanks, Suman! I’ll likely have to put it behind a paywall, though. This is probably the only reliable way to protect it from abuse (katacoda was shut down because of that, and for replit fighting bots is one of the main challenges). But also I’ll need to pay for its infra :)

Q: What's the virtual machine running on this Mac?

None :) The recording is done on a MacBook Air M1, but it doesn't run the code itself. I simply forwarded a port from a "dev server". And for the latter, I still use an old Intel MacBook Pro (in a headless mode). This old gentleman still works great with Vagrant + VirtualBox.

Thanks :)

looks great! I hope it's going to be open sourced 🤞🏼

Thanks! Some parts of it will be, but not sure about the whole thing - it’s a complex system which already has 5 distributed components. Packing it into something people can deploy easily will be challenging.

Looks amazing and really looking forward to learn from it 🥹❤️

Thanks, Mritunjay! :)

Very nice. Are you going to have a platform for others to publish courses? Looking forward to the blog writeup describing the tech :-)

This write-up is a must! I’ve been tempted to write it since the second week of the work on this platform. But trying to stay focused :) At first, it’ll be solely for my own content. But we’ll see how it may evolve in the future.

Many congratulations, keep it up!!❤️🔥I'm looking forward to learning from it.

Thanks, Aman!

This is gonna be awesome.

Not so certain about the end result yet, but it for sure feels awesome working on this project.

Getting a glimpse of these projects feels incredible work.

Can't wait! 👏
