So, what can NATO learn from Ukraine when it comes to the use of and defense against drones? 🔳 Counter-drone defense According to Ukrainian military officials, no NATO army is currently prepared to withstand a mass drone assault. 🔳 Camouflaging weapons ▪️ Over years of war, Ukrainian Defenders have mastered concealing weapons near the front lines under tree cover and camouflage netting. ▪️ Ukraine’s military has also developed systems for jamming Russian signals and tracking enemy drones. ▪️ NATO is considering using drones as tools for early warning and border deterrence. ▪️ NATO countries bordering Russia have initiated the creation of a Baltic Drone Wall — a network of drones, sensors, jamming systems, and surveillance equipment. 🔳 Drone production ▪️ Ukraine has significantly ramped up its capabilities and plans to produce 5 million drones in 2025. ▪️ Within NATO, Germany is working closely with Ukraine on drone development. ▪️ The EU has also announced plans to strengthen its member states’ capacity to manufacture drones. 🔳 Frontline testing Drone prototypes in Ukraine are immediately sent into combat and tested against Russian capabilities. #WATCH | Nagpur, Maharashtra: Solar Defence and Aerospace Ltd. (SDAL) demonstrated "Bhargavastra", an indigenous, vehicle-mounted, multi-layered Counter-Swarm Drone System designed to provide affordable and highly effective protection against the rapidly growing threat of weaponised drones, loitering munitions and autonomous drone swarms. Developed entirely in India, Bhargavastra represents a major technological breakthrough in counter-drone warfare and reflects SDAL's vision of anticipating the future character of conflict well before drones emerged as one of the most decisive battlefield weapons. The system employs indigenously designed and developed unguided rockets and precision micro-missiles arranged in a multi-layer engagement architecture, providing a highly effective yet economical means of neutralising hostile UAVs. It has also been designed for seamless integration with the existing Command, Control, Communication and Intelligence (C4I) networks of the Indian Armed Forces, enabling its employment in future network-centric operations. Engineered specifically for Indian operational conditions, Bhargavastra is capable of deployment across deserts, plains and mountainous terrain up to 5,000 metres above mean sea level, providing reliable protection against aerial threats along the country's entire land borders. The Command-and-Control Centre incorporates an advanced C4I architecture integrating a radar capable of detecting UAVs up to 10 km, an Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) surveillance system and passive RF sensors. These sensors provide multi-layer target detection, tracking and classification, generating a comprehensive air situation picture and enabling operators to engage either individual drones or coordinated drone swarms. Unlike conventional soft-kill systems based on jamming or spoofing, Bhargavastra provides an effective hard-kill solution against autonomous drones that are immune to electronic countermeasures. A team of Indian Army visited SDAL, Nagpur on 24th July 2026 as part of Status review against a PSO under make-II The Bhargavastra weapon system, in its full configuration comprising a Command & Control Vehicle (CCV) equipped with Radar, EO/IR and RF detectors integrated with the C4I system, along with a launcher vehicle carrying all the launch tubes, was demonstrated. The SDAL team flew a swarm of drones, which was successfully detected by the Radar, EO/IR and RF detectors. The C4I system displayed the complete situational awareness picture and generated a drone attack alert. The launcher was then assigned the targets by the C4I system, and the complete firing sequence was successfully demonstrated to the visiting team. Actual rocket firing was not carried out within the plant premises due to safety considerations.

Ukrainian drone units are sharing their experience with the U.S. military, helping them master modern drone warfare tactics. ▪️ The Wall Street Journal reported on the Combined Resolve exercises held in Germany this spring. The goal was to simulate realistic combat conditions, testing the ability to defend against drones and deploy them in offensive operations. During the drills, Ukrainian drone operators successfully spotted and "defeated" U.S. troops and armored vehicles. ▪️ According to the scenario, a U.S. armored brigade advanced against an "adversary" while equipped with standard electronic warfare and counter-drone systems. According to WSJ sources, the opposing team included Ukrainian drone pilots from the 412th Nemesis Unmanned Systems Brigade, alongside other units. ▪️ During the "offensive," heavy U.S. armored vehicles kicked up dust, making them easy for reconnaissance drones to spot. Ukrainian drone operators then "struck" them using drop-munitions and FPV kamikaze drones. No live munitions were used; an attack was counted as successful if a drone maneuvered directly to the target. As a result, the advancing group was "destroyed" so quickly that the "defeated" forces had to be sent back onto the field as reinforcements to keep the exercise going. ▪️ This scenario was repeated over the course of two weeks. U.S. forces adapted, improving their dispersal, concealment, and EW deployment. Sudanese Army Downs Advanced Chinese FH-95 Drone Over Jabra Al-Sheikh Weeks After Recapturing the Strategic North Kordofan Town, Renewing Focus on UAE Arms Supplies to the Rapid Support Militia The Sudanese Armed Forces said on Saturday that it had shot down a hostile FH-95 drone over Jabra Al-Sheikh in North Kordofan, the latest development in the escalating drone warfare being waged by the UAE-backed Rapid Support Militia. The army said the aircraft was successfully brought down, while Sudanese Echo obtained exclusive video footage documenting the moment the drone was shot down. The FH-95 is an advanced Chinese-made, multi-role unmanned aerial vehicle designed for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and electronic warfare missions, while also capable of carrying out precision strikes. Published specifications indicate that the aircraft has a take-off weight of around one tonne, can carry a payload of up to 250 kilograms, remain airborne for up to 24 hours, and operate at altitudes of around 42,000 feet. These capabilities allow it to conduct long-range surveillance, intelligence gathering, electronic jamming and attacks against ground targets. The appearance of another sophisticated UAV comes amid mounting evidence from hundreds of reports and investigations documenting the militia’s foreign weapons and logistics networks, including the role of the UAE in arming and supporting the Rapid Support Militia. The incident is particularly significant because the drone was downed over Jabra Al-Sheikh, recently recaptured by the Sudanese army alongside Bara and Umm Sayala in North Kordofan. Those operations secured important supply routes towards El Obeid and disrupted one of the militia’s movement corridors between Darfur and central Sudan.
