Sagan makes a salient point. Why would any nation on Earth that has to compete in a global economy intentionally disadvantage its own citizens? It's stupid. We have the resources to create the most educated, healthy, prosperous population in human history, but we don't do it.

Sagan was a rare breed. We all lost something truly special when he passed away.

What year was this? We could and SHOULD have done better. We are a nation being overtaken by wealthy people who don’t want others to become self-reliant. So now, in this moment, is there sufficient will to do better? I’m afraid we know the answer.

It’s still such a sad pathetic reality.
