bit of background - my landlord gave me 10 days notice of a rent increase of £150 per month + a deposit of £750 when I didn't pay one when i moved in. they wanted £1400 by the next week. or I'd have to pay an extra £100 to have a month to find somewhere else to live

i was expecting an increase, u know, cozzie livs but this amount expected with that time frame, the way they went about it (its not even legal) + considering everything im about to say in my next tweets, was outrageous

when i moved in, it was via virtual viewing (lockdown), i had to move quick cause i was in homeless accom on UC but i got a job & i was gonna be paying my own rent now. so when I got here & I saw the state of the house I was in shock, it was filthy.

there was a mice infestation, bugs coming through the wall, dead bugs & grease all over lights. old food, rotten bananas in cupboards, unsealed parts of the house, ceiling holes, wall holes, blocked drains etc. guys i kid you not it was like a scene from How Clean Is Your House

I told them & they just ignored it. they knew the pics of the house looked nothing like it. bear in mind it was advertised that there was a weekly cleaner (I've now become the weekly cleaner)

i had to clean & disinfect the entire house, got rid of the mice & bug infestation u know i do meal preps so hygiene is my top priority, I can't cook in a house thats not sanitary & hygienic i even painted n decorated to make it look better

so u see when they tried to do me like that?nah, not having it. the landlord called me trying to intimidate me to get me to pay. so when I gave them the same amount as I always pay, they gave me an eviction notice

i played dumb at first to catch them, then I come with the legals, this is the field I work in, come on

if they wanted to increase my rent they would need to give me a Section 13 which gives me two months notice of the increase. u can't just tell me by email or by phone, & i also do not have to agree

you also can't charge me an extra £100 to have a month to find somewhere to live A section 21 eviction notice gives you 2 months & even then i don't have to leave

so anyway I reported them to the council, the council come back & told me they're not HMO licensed so the eviction notice was invalid, HAHAHA!!!!

the council fined them but they avoided the fine by saying they didn't receive the letters & so on the show it says they weren't licensed because of an admin error, for legal reasons

& anyway, here i am, still here today, paying the same amount loooool

don't let these landlords take the piss, they prey on young people, who don't know the law to live in their property so they can do shit like this. tenants have more rights than you think. don't agree to anything you're unsure of, check with the council & shelter
