Hackney Council has voted to commence the dissolution of its 58-year-old twinning arrangement with Haifa, Israel’s third-largest city. So, we sat down with the daughter of Lord Stanley Clinton Davis – the man who created the Hackney-Haifa link. This is what she had to say.

Last night outside Hackney Town Hall with people protesting to untwin Haifa and Hackney. A woman ‘caught’ a Jewish lady walking around simply filming the scene (lots of eggs thrown, got videos of the woman who was arrested for throwing eggs too) and she was called a baby killer and told she didn’t belong here. This was the video by the lady who was targeted of the lady being hateful and racist and slanderous. Vile.

Oof. This Times Radio interview with Green Party Mayor of Hackney Zoe Garbett is pure second-hand embarrassment. When pushed, she says trans women in Hackney should be able to use women's spaces. But she spends most of the interview trying not to actually say that. Presumably because she knows the legal and political difficulties with doing so. Instead, she deflects to domestic violence, claims the Supreme Court ruling doesn't protect women, and repeats that "trans women are women" and face high levels of sexual violence. None of which engage with the substance of the question - or the law.

The council is on track to be £785 million in debt by 2028. It plans to raise another £28 million from residents through council tax over the next few years. Money is tight, apparently.
