Had a fun conversation with Harry Stebbings on all things Model Independence, Software Factories, pricing wars… And sprinkled in some hot takes that I may or may not regret sharing 😳

Perplexity’s CEO Aravind Srinivas: In software you would always pay for the very best frontier model. "It's kind of like, if you know some engineer is awesome, if you know you have, like, the next Jeff Dean, would you rather hire that person and not hire five people who are medium engineers, but not Jeff Dean-level, with the same amount of budget you have? Let's say you had a million dollars. You could hire five people worth $200K, or you could hire one Jeff and pay them a million. What would you do?" ---- From "20VC with Harry Stebbings" YouTube channel ( Harry Stebbings ), link in comment

"Are you nervous about Trumps tweet about Iran?" No. I just learned our government may or may not be human and may or may not have been eating babies Everything else seems dull after that. My fear corn switch is off in regards to things on the internet.

Martin martin_casado and I had a fun hour-long chat about why we need an AI software layer, and why that's true even if AGI arrives. This is basically my take on why "the model" is definitely NOT "the product", though models are one way you may decide to implement some products

Anish Acharya's request for a startup: an AI companion that plays Minecraft with his son. "One of the products that I would love to exist... is what I call a contextual companion for my son who plays Minecraft." "You know, the other kids playing Minecraft may or may not be the best influence—often not the best influence." "There's this context in which they interact and, I don't know, just sort of models pro-social behaviors and is still cool and chill." "I think there's a lot of room for teaching through these types of relationships and technology can help provide that." Source: Anish Acharya on 20VC with Harry Stebbings

Will SaaS survive the AI era? Four reasons it may not: - Complexity: Software will be cheaper & easier to build yourself - Model Providers: Foundation model providers will move into the app layer. - Agentic Models: Models are becoming more agentic, they could handle tasks without extra SaaS layers. - Experience: SaaS today is built for human GUIs, AI in the future would not require any clicking. Link to the entire interview with Harry Stebbings below.

Reporter: Trump told reporters that he had no idea about Epstein's crimes. During this conversation with the police chief, he did say, according to this recounting of it, that thank goodness you're stopping him. He also called Ghislaine Maxwell evil. Did that conversation happen? And can you explain the discrepancy? Leavitt: Look, it was a phone call that may or may not have happened in 2006.
