By having the will to leave the ring, John shows why he is perfect for the role.

It’s honestly perfect. Instead of being handed the ring, John eventually gets to earn the ring like it’s supposed to happen.

Left the ring and walked out like an engagement was ending.

nothing i saw on screen was hal breaking his code, the oath or himself. Even the fight was hal letting him win. John stabbed him in the back like a vegan he was

If they dont have the budget for a good green lantern show, then they shouldn't make it. This is just a bunch of people talking to each other and occasionally putting a green bubble around someone. Boring as hell

Thing is - this is the first time in the entire show that John has made his own decision. The way his parents raised him has ironically made him into a mindless slave - I'm not sure he ever truly wanted the ring, but rather he was TOLD that he wants the ring. He never wanted to be a hero, we don't see his dire desires to save people - rather it's him fulfilling his "masters"' orders. I don't think the writers meant for this, given one of the writers called John's mom a badass hero. While I love this show A LOT, and I admire the clear love for quality-cinema its creators present - I have to say this episode, while being a great episode of Television and very deep - did take a huge dump over both John and Hal, though at least John got that final redeeming act. AMAZING and incredible show, but not how I would personally depict these two AWESOME characters right at their first appearance. It feels like having 'Logan' be our first introduction to Charles Xaiver and Wolverine. Is 'Logan' a deep INCREDIBLE film? Yes! Are Charles and Logan written amazingly well? Yes! But it would be a bumber to get introduced to them like that, in the context of the larger universe. I mean, they're both assholes, except for some redeeming scenes.

I didn’t know the ring can just be ripped off a green lantern thought it took a lot to do that

Dig the show but cant stand how they need to create this super human moral fiber around black characters and just not let them be. Sam Wilson so good he cant take the super serum, John Stewart, fearless but sooo fearless and good that he wont take the ring.

That moment hits like a freight train because it strips away all the cosmic superhero mythos and exposes the raw, tragic addiction of the Green Lantern ring.

Hal is nothing without the ring. Should have given it back, Hal could have easily punched him with a green fist during the fight because he had the ring on. It's a shame it's like this. Don't agree with leaving him in the car though

That choice hits harder when the ring has become nothing but a reminder of what Hal lost

what show did Hal do those things in because it wasn't this one? in the show I just watched, I saw Hal trying to save the town and innocent lives while John attacked the hero and stole his ring. if there isn't some twist with the Guardian being a villain this show is lost

Did you know that the way Isildur takes the One Ring from Sauron in the prologue of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is quite different from Tolkien’s book? In Peter Jackson’s film, the scene takes place inside Mount Doom, but in Tolkien’s story, Sauron is defeated on the battlefield by Gil-galad and Elendil. After Elendil falls and Sauron stands over his broken sword, Narsil, Isildur cuts the Ring from Sauron’s finger and takes it. In the book, Elrond and Círdan urge Isildur to destroy the Ring after the battle, telling him to take it to the fires of Mount Doom. Isildur refuses, claiming it as a weregild for the deaths of his father and brother. He then keeps the Ring for 2 years, ruling as King of Arnor and Gondor. Eventually, as the Ring begins to weigh heavily on him, Isildur realizes the danger and sets out for Rivendell to seek Elrond’s counsel and give up the Ring. But near the Gladden Fields, he and his men are ambushed by Orcs. Isildur puts on the Ring to escape, but it slips from his finger in the Anduin, revealing him to the Orcs. He is then killed by their arrows. So unlike the film’s version, Isildur didn’t simply lose the Ring after taking it from a defeated Sauron. He chose to keep it, refused to destroy it, and ultimately paid for that decision with his life. Tolkien never explicitly says that the Ring “betrayed” Isildur because he did not deserve to possess it. That part is my own interpretation of his fate.
