I first met Saud Abdulhamid on my very first trip to Riyadh. Saudi Arabia. I had gone there to see Odion Ighalo, back when he was still playing for Al Hilal. The police took apprx 30 min to arrive and once they did, even after showing the video with the guy shouting threats, acted like it wasn’t a big deal. I remember saying, “So since I’m not bleeding, a punch to the head is ok?!” THIRD. When I refused to back down and only after I told them I had a headache… They agreed to go to the address the man shouted in the video and MADE ME GO WITH THEM, despite having video footage clearly identifying him. I can’t describe how terrifying that was. Maybe they were hoping I’d refuse and give up? FINALLY. The cops did NOT get the security footage, WE did. The cops walked into the nail salon when I pointed out the camera, but said only the owner had access to the footage. Michael, my husband, went back later and the salon happily put him in touch with the owner who immediately found the footage and sent it to him. It took five minutes. I am so grateful it wasn’t worse. I’m grateful it was me and not someone who couldn’t take the hit or the fall. I’m hopeful the man gets the help and services he clearly needs. I even made note of the guy when I saw him, but it wasn’t until I saw a strange flick in his hand (you can see in the footage) that I realized something wasn’t right. SECOND. The police took apprx 30 min to arrive and once they did, even after showing the video with the guy shouting threats, acted like it wasn’t a big deal. I remember saying, “So since I’m not bleeding, a punch to the head is ok?!” THIRD. When I refused to back down and only after I told them I had a headache… They agreed to go to the address the man shouted in the video and MADE ME GO WITH THEM, despite having video footage clearly identifying him. I can’t describe how terrifying that was. Maybe they were hoping I’d refuse and give up? FINALLY. The cops did NOT get the security footage, WE did. The cops walked into the nail salon when I pointed out the camera, but said only the owner had access to the footage. Michael, my husband, went back later and the salon happily put him in touch with the owner who immediately found the footage and sent it to him. It took five minutes. I am so grateful it wasn’t worse. I’m grateful it was me and not someone who couldn’t take the hit or the fall. I’m hopeful the man gets the help and services he clearly needs. Often called the "last gentleman player" of F1, he was highly respected by his peers for his polite demeanor and fair racing style. Back in 2014, Murphy is on the Senate floor, he's giving speeches, he's writing resolutions, and he's telling every Republican in Washington... don't you dare undermine these Iran negotiations. Don't do it. He said if Congress shows it doesn't take the talks seriously, it'll destroy our credibility with allies, scare off our negotiating partners, give Russia and China an excuse to walk, and leave us with nothing but a military option. His words. Not anyone else's. His words. And by the way, Trump rebuilt the military, made it the strongest, the most powerful, the most technologically advanced fighting force the world has ever seen... nobody's even close... so the military option isn't quite the disaster it would've been under the previous administration, but that's a separate story. So what happens? Trump gets back into office, and he starts serious indirect talks with Iran. April 2025. Oman-mediated. Very tough, very sophisticated negotiations. Steve Witkoff, incredible guy, working the back channels. Trump gave them a real deadline... sixty days... because he doesn't do endless process. He does deals. Fame and Fortune is like dancing with a very large poisons snake and they always win. I have had, in a parallel former life, the chance to work with the very famous on their way up. The first thing I say is: “What goes up, will go down. Your career, your money (maybe) and your brain (most definitely) and just about every friendship”. Your parents, your grand parents, your siblings, your kids they all become part of what I call “The Elvis Syndrome”. To everything your constellation of folks around you say “Yes Elvis, that’s a real good idea”, to everything. See they assume, even if they don’t say it, that you must be a “genius” because they didn’t do what you did and they don’t have the money and fame. They assign genius to you and lesser to themselves. They dare not speak up. They prefer “Yes Elvis, have another fried peanut butter and bacon sandwich. You are not getting fat”. Long ago your burning starlight chased away any true friends, because even if they were strong to say truth, you believed your own public persona like everyone around you. You can not listen, you are the genius they have some job someplace. You also have just two options to anyone around you: 1) Your “crew” 2) People you pay And ironically they merge in to one and the same. All see your public persona and all see you as a means to get paid. Oh you go to “parties” with other rich and famous people but they are one of the above ultimately. Hierarchy forms around you and they naturally form a protection barrier. You have tantrums as fame rips you apart and you desperately try to become your public persona. Each layer you build to protect your all too human center moves you into more and more isolation. Shielded from real and needed pressures of life you are in your beautiful and well stocked velvet prison. You are now just a vehicle for moving money efficiently and surrounded by people that live off this largess. At the peak you may have advisors and they may seem to help. But they dare not tell you what they see even if they could see it. And most can’t see it because no one is prepared for it so they don’t have any better insight. This spans the enter ensemble of people that are now your satellites from gurus to lawyers, from plastic surgery doctors and fitness trainers. So what now? What if your dreams to “make it big”? Abundance does not fix a broken soul. And we all have this. Trauma is a great fuel, it will absolutely get you to orbit and you will shine, but trauma in orbit is the breaks that break you and when gravity wins, and it always does, you have no idea how to navigate going down. Trauma is what I have seen build everyone from Elvis to Steve Jobs. Trauma unresolved took them out. I am not saying your dreams are invalid and should not be your goal, I am saying that you don’t get a pass. No one does. And with fame and fortune it is nearly impossible to address it, because your ego can’t fit in a zip code. As you prepare for you fortune, and if you are reading this, you will have one, prepare your mind. Deal with the dark places that drive you. Make peace with the past, the people that did you wrong and mostly with yourself. But in this bargain you will remove some fuel for your rocket. It is the bargain. But it is the better path. 🔴JK🌟Was LIVE | 6.28.26 | 4 hours As one of the lucky ones who was able to watch JK’s four-hour live last night, I wanted to share what I took away from it. Fair warning: this is a long one… but he did give us four hours of content. 😅 Read if you’d like! First, and most importantly, Jungkook wants us to see him for who he is: a responsible adult who is capable of making his own decisions. He wants people to stop questioning every choice he makes, every word he says, and every aspect of how he lives his life. He is happy. He told us himself, “I’m so good.” He takes his health and well-being seriously, and he knows what works for him. He works hard, and like many adults, enjoys winding down sometimes with good food, alcohol, or both. He’s naturally nocturnal and thrives on the schedule that suits him. He doesn’t need unsolicited advice about how he should sleep or live. After the show, he went out to eat with the members, before returning to his hotel to film the dance challenge, which took over 50 takes. It was another reminder of how much pride he takes in his work. He always wants to show us, and himself, the very best he can do. Right now, he’s immersed in dance. He’s studying locking, krumping, and other house styles because he genuinely wants to become an even better dancer. He wants keep sharing dance challenges with us, because that’s one of the ways he can give us something new right now. He said he doesn’t actually listen to music that often, unless it is connected to a dance video, but when he does, he’s been enjoying a lot of music from his fellow idols, especially girl groups. He even shared a few songs he’s been playing on repeat lately. He’s also been enjoying anime, talking about several series he’s been watching and how excited he is for the next season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. He spoke honestly about learning English. He has a teacher, and he wants to improve, but it’s difficult and he simply doesn’t have enough time to devote to it. At the same time, he made it clear, again, that he doesn’t want people constantly asking or telling him to speak English. As he has said so many times: “I don’t speak English. I’m Korean.” If you choose to watch his lives, stop asking for it! One of the most candid moments was hearing him talk about big brand events. He admitted that they make him uncomfortable, saying Taehyung loves them and is much better at them. Small talk doesn’t come naturally to him, and he gets shy with all the eye contact. But, like the professional he is, he has learned how to do it well, because it’s part of his job, and because he genuinely appreciates the brands he works with, speaking warmly once again about his Calvin Klein collaboration. And then there’s what has always been part of Jungkook’s core: singing. He simply loves to sing. He loves exploring his voice, learning new techniques, experimenting with different genres, and constantly improving. He watches YouTube vocal tutorials to keep growing. Karaoke isn’t just fun for him, it’s practice, exploration, and another way to become a better artist. Listening to him sing throughout the live was a gift. Beautiful, playful, effortless, and unmistakably Jungkook. His performance of “Into the Sun” was my personal highlight, with perfectly placed vocal runs, delicate high notes, and emotion woven into every line. This is only a small part of what Jungkook shared with us over those four hours. I’m incredibly grateful that he gave us so much of his time, his thoughts, his laughter, and his music. My biggest takeaway is this: if you choose to log into his lives, then let him live. Keep your cringy comments to yourself. He doesn’t want to see them, and neither do we. I’ve been meaning to share here that I bought land! Growing up I vividly remember going to the welfare office with my mom. Public school, free lunches & section 8 housing made life possible. I wanted more for myself so I studied, worked my ass off, and put myself in the way of getting lucky. I pivoted into tech in my late 20’s, and was already a mom of 2 at that point. It was not an immediate up and to the right journey. In fact, my first startup failed. And it was entirely bootstrapped so I lost all the money I’d put into it. After working at other companies for some years I was ready to try again but then I nearly failed at fundraising. It was humbling to hear no after no but I just kept learning and adapting. I have always played long games and I’m willing to take a lot of pain in the short-term to realize big goals. People who know my full life story say it’s so hard to believe that I am in this position today, but it’s not by accident. I built this life brick by brick. Odds were stacked against me but I found joy in the challenge of doing hard things. Much of my success is from being pushed down and told I couldn’t make it. I love proving people wrong. Back to the land. I started dreaming of this project over a decade ago, back when I had no money to do it. But I talked about it to friends constantly like it was inevitable - because even though I didn’t know *how* it would happen, I began believing it would. Here we are and now it’s a key piece of what I want to accomplish in my next act. I want to create a place that people come to for reflection, to unwind from the grind, and to build meaningful connection to self and others. I want to host salons to discuss and debate interesting topics with the smartest people I can find. Breakthroughs will happen round a fire, while lounging poolside, and while gazing up at the stars through the trees. It took a year of searching for land but we found a spot just 1 hour north of San Francisco. It’s got some beautiful bones and infrastructure on it already but there’s a lot to imagine and build to realize the dream. Everything big starts small. So, we put up our first tree swings, hammocks and a canvas tent. 🏕️ If you’re into that kind of journey then I’ll be posting more about it on IG and may create an account just for that work. I’ve never owned land so 10 acres is an amazing canvas to create and learn on. There will be mistakes and setbacks, There always are. But I can’t wait to see what gets accomplished in the next decade! (And no, I am not quitting my job at Meta - this project is my side gig for the foreseeable future. I’m lucky to have the best guy I know focused on it full-time.) As the corporate truism goes - team work makes the dream work. LFG! 💕
