I moved to an island yrs ago and never lived in a small town. Was nice how everyone knew me, but I started feeling it had become impossible to grab that freeing sense of obscurity. In a claustrophobic moment, I pulled out my phone and typed, "diminishing anonymity". so word.

Sweet Christ, I am forever grateful when I did the road that recording yourself was next to impossible. I can’t imagine having hours of me bombing in Bemidji, Sioux Falls, Lansing, Dubuque, et al that first year and a half.

Musicians have said the same thing. Even well-known musicians want to take the stage and just play whatever gets played and if it sounds like garbage, fine, nobody's going to hear it. Now with cell phones, everybody hears it instantly. It's scary 2 have to be perfect all the time
