When we were preparing this year’s Easter greeting, we learned that right nearby, also on the grounds of St. Sophia of Kyiv, children of Ukraine’s defenders from Kyiv and the Kyiv region had gathered at the same time – children whose parents, sadly, were killed in this war. An excursion, an Easter egg-hunting quest, traditional spring and Easter songs, and workshops on making stained glass were organized for them by the Socially Responsible Business Platform “To the Children of Our Defenders,” which brings together entrepreneurs and the state to support children who have lost their parents because of the war. The participants of the platform are always close to the families of defenders – organizing trips, rest, activities, and education, creating important moments of warmth and care. So we joined this moment at St. Sophia and came to wish the children a Happy Easter. The smiles we were greeted with are priceless. We want and must do everything so that the children of those who gave the most precious thing for Ukraine’s security never lose their faith in the world. We invite businesses, entrepreneurs, and all caring people across different regions to join the “To the Children of Our Defenders” Platform, support its initiatives, and launch their own efforts to help the children of defenders. Not only on holidays – but every day, we are grateful to all who are fighting for Ukraine. And all our care is for their loved ones.

Not a gamer myself, but the song "Sound of the Wind" from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles holds a special place in my heart. To play with the mighty Metropole Orchestra was a true honor. 13 years ago, funny to see this young me singing my lungs out! I was quite nervous, wanted to prove that this metal singer could do well in a different environment than a metal band. Collaborations like that were rare in those days. Do you know the song and what do you think of this version?

82 years ago, on May 18, 1944, Russian special forces deported Crimean Tatars from their homes by force, without warning. Families were given just minutes to pack. At least 200,000 people (most of them women, children and the elderly) were taken by cattle trains to Central Asia and Siberia. Their homes in Crimea were taken by Russians arriving in the peninsula. During transit and in the first incredibly hard years, about half of the deported people died from starvation, exhaustion and diseases. Their culture was systematically being erased, as well. After the collapse of the USSR, Crimean Tatars were allowed to return to Crimea. But after Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014, they are facing systemic prosecution and suppression of their identity. A lot of them fled their homes again. Many are imprisoned for years now. This is a horrible genocide and crime against humanity that the USSR has performed easily and quickly. Russia has never gone through remorse and de-colonization pains. That's why it remains a criminal state today, led by a war criminal. 📹: Ukrainer

According to her testimony, women were not allowed to mourn in their mother tongue at their children’s graves. Villagers allegedly needed permission to sing traditional Macedonian songs at Easter. In one account, when police realized people were singing in Macedonian, shots were fired from a distance. These memories point to the interwar and Metaxas-era policies, when the Greek state enforced linguistic assimilation in Aegean Macedonia. Slavic dialects were restricted, place names changed, and public use of Macedonian suppressed. For Macedonian Slavs, this period is remembered as cultural suffocation. For the Greek state, it was nation-building. In the Balkans, identity has often meant survival. And language — even whispered — became resistance.

Tim Cook ends his 15-year run as Apple CEO tomorrow. At the 2026 Berkshire AGM, Warren Buffett — who saw his initial $35B Apple investment in 2016 grow to $185B — praised Cook for carrying the torch from Steve Jobs (Cook was sitting next to incoming CEO John Ternus): “About 10 years ago, we made a commitment to move 10% of Berkshire Hathaway resources and turn it over to a person who was not well known at the time. We did that by roughly spending $35B to buy stock in Apple. We turned that money over to Apple to essentially make Berkshire look good without any work by us…which is our preferred way of operating. Ten years later, the $35B — counting dividends, realized appreciation and unrealized appreciation — has turned into $185B pretax. And I didn’t have to do a damn thing. Our largest holding is still Apple [~$60B]. When Tim Cook went into the top position at Apple [in 2011], he succeeded a legend. Steve Jobs. Everyone in America knew his name. Not many knew Tim’s name. Steve did these marvelous things, developing products and he had an untimely death. Everyone asked who would run the company. […] How would you like to step in the shoes of Steve and come through with [Cook’s record]? It’s one of the miracles of American business management. Anyway, thank you Tim.”

A note to U2’s audience from Bono: "We are in the studio, still working towards a noisy, messy, 'unreasonably colour xerox’ album to play LIVE… which is where U2 lives. We still look to vivid rock n roll as an act of resistance against all this awfulness on our small screens. These are for sure ‘wilderness years’ for so many of us looking at the mayhem out there in the world. It’s a time that has our band digging deeper into our lives to find a wellspring of songs to try to meet the moment… With Easter Lily we ended up asking very personal questions like: Are our own relationships up to these challenging times? How hard do you fight for friendship? Can our faith survive the mangling of meaning that those algorithms love to reward? Is all religion rubbish and still ripping us apart…? Or are there answers to find in its crevices? Are there ceremonies, rituals, dances that we might be missing in our lives? It’s a time that has our band digging deeper into our lives to find a wellspring of songs to try to meet the moment… With Easter Lily we ended up asking very personal questions like: Are our own relationships up to these challenging times? How hard do you fight for friendship? Can our faith survive the mangling of meaning that those algorithms love to reward? Is all religion rubbish and still ripping us apart…? Or are there answers to find in its crevices? Are there ceremonies, rituals, dances that we might be missing in our lives? From the rite of Spring to Easter and its promise of rebirth and renewal… Patti Smith’s album Easter gave me so much hope when it was released in 1978. I wasn’t yet 18. The title is a nod to her. In 1976, two close friends from Florida spent a night at their local bar and made a pact to test the strength of their friendship. They wrote "4-4-76" and "4-4-2016" on a $1 bill, tore it in half, and each kept one piece, promising to reunite exactly 40 years later. Life took them in different directions, and they eventually lost touch as one moved to a different state, yet both somehow held onto their halves through decades of change. On April 4, 2016, Joe tracked down Steve and showed up at the same bar with his faded piece of the dollar. When they joined the halves together, the writing still matched perfectly. A powerful symbol of a promise kept and a friendship that had endured nearly half a century.
