Did you know that Simon the Sorcerer (1993) was born out of a failed licensing agreement between Terry Pratchett (Discworld) and Adventure Soft? Prior to working on Simon the Sorcerer, Adventure Soft was mostly known for their horror-themed games, such as Elvira or Waxworks (under the Horror Soft label). The idea to move towards more family friendly games was mostly motivated by the huge popularity of games such as Monkey Island and Legend of Kyrandia. Simon the Sorcerer had a very vibrant style, with bold colors and beautiful pixel art. Every graphic was first hand-drawn on paper, then scanned, and manually colored in the final step. In typical point and click adventure style, you navigate Simon through almost 50 of these hand-drawn screens, solving puzzles by collecting and using items, and talking to other characters, looking for clues. Pretty much all adventure games from that era followed the same script, and that was fine. Adventure Soft obviously never had the same marketing power as LucasArts or Sierra, but Simon the Sorcerer still managed to sell over half a million units, which made the game highly profitable for a small family owned game studio from the UK and became their biggest hit ever.

Did you know that Samus's iconic ability to roll into a compact ball wasn't originally planned? Tt stemmed from a programming limitation on the NES that made the crawling animation too complex. Developers then turned it into a feature for navigating tight spaces. This was later picked up by other games too, for example Turrican or Sonic the Hedgehog. The game's creator, Gunpei Yokoi, was heavily influenced by Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi horror classic, giving the game its eerie atmosphere, isolated exploration on a hostile alien planet, and even naming the dragon-like boss Ridley after the film's director.

I love this guy but I'm sorry but I 101% disagree with this take, this take is absolutely so horrible 😅 This is truly a superficial take that people do for the New Team NInja " Soulslikes " Games. The combat in those games is absolutely not pure number loot slop. It can be if someone wants to play them as Diablo-likes yes BUT if someone wants to enjoy a super deep and complex combat, there is absolutely no need to care about numbers and RPG stuff. Someone can simply just focus on the pure combat aspect of the game, as long has he has enough mastery in order to be able to do it. And that's why I love and enjoy SO MUCH Nioh, Wo Long and Stranger of Peak 🔥 And speaking of harder difficulties of the game, bosses do NEW ATTACKS and they have a different AI on EVERY SINGLE different difficulty. This video was recorded in the hardest difficulty of the game, Lufenia Difficulty. And there is no pure number loot slop in this, only Peak Combat 😌 Stranker of Peak Final Fantasy Origin - Gilgamesh - No Damage - Lufenia Difficulty 🥷

Sam Raimi on the making of 'The Evil De@d' (1981) & how 'Halloween' (1978) & other films he watched at the drive-ins inspired him to make movies: "EMPIRE: 'The Evil De@d' (1981) was made for financial reasons, wasn't it? RAIMI: We were just trying to make a movie that would play in the drive-ins. It wasn't really driven by a love of horror. The movies that I'd made up until that point were comedies and dramas, but Rob Tapert said, "If we're going to do this, you've got to learn to make a horror movie." I said, "I don't like horror movies because they scare me!" I had some intense experiences as a kid watching horror movies and I didn't know how to make it fun for me. He said, "Well, let's go see if you can make a horror. I'm going to the theatre and you tell me if you can make a horror movie as good as this." So we went to the theatre and 'Halloween' (1978) was playing! We watched it and he goes, "Well, can you make a movie as good as that? That's a low-budget horror movie!" I said, "I don't think I can!" EMPIRE: That's like watching 'Apocalypse Now' (1979) before making a war movie! RAIMI: (Laughs) I didn't know how famous it was going to be. I was really depressed. But I learned how to make a horror movie. We started to sit through drive-ins. People would give us weird looks: three boys – Bruce Campbell, Rob and myself – sitting in the front seat of a car at the drive-in, which was a make-out place, and we were there, trying to see all the Italian and British and American horror films. We'd see what they would do and go, "Okay, we can't hear what they're doing in the other cars, but those people look like they're afraid!" Then we wrote the script for 'Evil De@d', and I made a Super-8 movie (Within The Woods, starring Campbell) that had some scares in it, and I started to understand what that was about.
