A nuclear war can never be won. With the threat of nuclear war growing, the risks are terrifying. Congress must act to reduce and cap nuclear arsenals and prioritize diplomacy. We deserve a world free from the threat of nuclear war.

Mohsen Rezaei, a military adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, threatened that the Islamic Republic could withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the international treaty under which non-nuclear-weapon states agree not to pursue atomic weapons. Rezaei also warned that Iran would deliver a “hard, painful and unprecedented” response to the United States if US forces entered the Persian Gulf or acted against Iran’s position in the Strait of Hormuz.

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius on nuclear independence: We signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty and committed not to have our own nuclear weapons. Taking this step would be a breach of these treaties. Why should we question NATO’s nuclear deterrence? It is guaranteed by the Americans.

In 2024 Jeffrey Sachs warned that a war with Iran WILL be WW3: "Iran is not alone and it will not remain alone. And so if we go to war with Iran we are expanding the war with Russia." "With Russia we are at a possibility of peace but we are also at a possibility of nuclear war. They are both very close." "If we go to war with Iran we make the war a nuclear war all the more likely."

A reflection by Pope Leo XIV "The Church has long been working for nuclear disarmament, aware that every great technical power can affect people’s lives and so must be accompanied by adequate moral discernment and public control. Nuclear disarmament remains a service to peace and the dignity of the human family. In a similar sense, artificial intelligence now demands to be “disarmed,” freed from logics that turn it into an instrument of domination, exclusion and death. Like nuclear energy, it must be at the service of all and of the common good. Decisions about technology must never be separated from conscience and responsibility." (Presentation and Promulgation of the Encyclical Letter “Magnifica Humanitas” - May 25, 2026)

Trump’s Attack on Iran🇮🇷 is a message to the Global South: GET NUCLEAR WEAPONS! ‘The message that they’re sending is that this was a strong signal that nuclear proliferation is off limits and that the United States will intervene. But the message is exactly the opposite to any Global South or other country looking at this situation is that nuclear weapons are the only way to be secure. And I do think that it will lead to more nuclear proliferation, which is ironic, because the goal here was to prevent proliferation and the result ultimately, in my view will be, will be the opposite.’ -Jennifer Kavanagh of Defense Priorities, on Going Underground

For decades, Africa’s uranium has powered the Global North’s nuclear reactors and arsenals, while almost no African states have been allowed to build nuclear deterrence of their own. The reason for this unfair arrangement is the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), an agreement designed by the nations of the West to lock as many other nations out of nuclear power as possible, while the West gets to keep its arsenals. Though a new political wave is rising in Africa, led by the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), the continent is still bound by this treaty. This must change! Africa must wake up to the reality of its self-preservation in a world that has exploited it for too long.

Senator Chris Murhpy on Iran's nuclear program: The president has also said over and over again that a goal of the war is to permanently deny Iran the ability to have nuclear weapons. But in our closed-door briefings, we learned that this is not actually a goal of the war plan. It is not a goal of the war to destroy Iran’s nuclear program — which is not surprising, because you cannot destroy Iran’s nuclear program from the air. You cannot destroy knowledge. You cannot hunt down with missiles every Iranian scientist who knows how to build a nuclear reactor. And much of the material is buried so far underground that it is immune to an air campaign. But then why is the president and the Department of Defense telling the American people that the point of the war is to destroy Iran’s nuclear program?

Let's be clear: The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) guarantees non-nuclear weapon nations (including Iran) the “inalienable right” to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. No intelligence that the public has seen shows Iran was working toward having a nuclear weapon, nor did it show they had plans to do so. Even the U.S. intel community said so 2 1/2 months ago. So far Trump, Hegseth and Vance have been unable to provide evidence to the contrary and have instead hinted at the attack being centered around Iran not being willing to entirely give up all of their uranium enrichment. We need to have a congressional investigation into this. America deserves to know the truth. Was this just another “Weapons of Mass Destruction” claim like we saw under GW Bush in 2003?
