Blockout - an interesting Polish game from 1989, clearly based on the concept of Tetris. The game was published by California Dreams, a company you may recognise from titles such as Street Rod (1989) and Street Rod 2 (1991), both of these games have been featured on my profile some time ago.

We are deeply saddened at the passing of Jake Roehn ('18). Jake finished his time in Athens with two MAC Championships as well as 29 saves, making him Ohio's all-time saves leader - a mark that still stands. But along with a number of other baseball accolades, Jake, most importantly, was an amazing teammate and friend and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time.

Here's some more new stuff called "Item States" and features such as: Item Freezing & Malfunctions. Item Freezing is linked to liquid-based items, so when playing the Winter seasonal mode, there's a random change over time that those items might freeze. When the item is frozen it cannot be used (like consumables) and needs to be melted / unfrozen by using heat sources from the game world or going inside the shelter. Also when looting in Winter, some items might spawn frozen state by default. Weapon malfunctions are connected to the item condition and less condition there is the malfunctions will occur more frequently. Once malfunction occurs that can be cleared by pressing reload which visually uses placeholder lowering thing until proper animations. Weapon condition degrades over time when firing and weapon condition can be restored by using weapon cleaning tools and repair kits. Weapons at zero condition will not fire at all.

Who remembers this classic shooter from 35 years ago? SWIV (or "Silkworm IV" as called by some) from 1991. Graphics and sound effects were excellent for its time. But what I liked the most was that you could toggle through the power ups by shooting at them when they dropped. It added some extra fun and complexity, it allowed you to really improve (or mess up!) your weapons path. The game was considered a spiritual successor to Tecmo's arcade game Silkworm from 1989. The game's heritage is evident from the game design whereby one player pilots a helicopter, and the other an armoured Jeep. SWIV is not an official sequel, as noted by ex-Sales Curve producer Dan Marchant: "SWIV wasn't really a sequel to Silkworm, but it was certainly inspired by it and several other shoot-'em-ups that we had played and loved." If you listen closely to the sound effects, you will definitely hear a resemblance to "Silkworm." Sometimes I would just let the intro run endlessly - the music was simply too good!

Two weeks in, four games played. It’s been an intense start but also a valuable opportunity to make quick improvements game by game. The players and staff have given everything in tough circumstances and I couldn’t ask for more in terms of effort. We showed good elements of our game yesterday, but there are still areas we need to work on. That will come with more time on the training pitch, as we continue to build the fitness, understanding and consistency needed to perform across 90 minutes. Step by step, we’ll get there.

But the reckoning with Hamas is not over, and will not be over, until they lay down their arms. What they did that day, and how they dragged an entire region into hell, will not be forgotten. We remember. And we will remember, as Jews do.
