I get the argument. But in most cases, the kids menu is a loss leader. It's priced at loss as the restaurant knows that kids don't eat alone so atleast one adult meal will be ordered.

My parents and I used to get 3 cheeseburgers and fries from Outback Steakhouse to go. It was $4.99 each. They were the same size as the regular burgers.

Discounted kids food is a marketing ploy to get families to dine in.

When I worked in catering if an adult ordered a kids meal I would alway tie a complimentary kids balloon to their chair.

kid meals are often sold at cost or even a loss as the profit is made from the adults meal this is more of a marketing thing to increase/retain customer base (ie families) vs actual portion size -some even offer kids eat free

That show is absolutely amazing. @rickygervais is a rare talent that can blend poignant storytelling with brutal wit that is a treasure in an entertainment industry filled with mindless slop. If you haven't given it a watch yet, I can't recommend it enough.
