Going forward, we met with the King, some of the families of the victims, and parents in the communities of Ahoro-Esiele and Yawato communities. Furthermore, we assured them of our solidarity and support for them in this time of trouble and grief. Subsequently, we assured them that we are constantly calling on the government to ensure the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers. Earlier today, I addressed a World Press Conference in my capacity as the Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council (TICC) on the disturbing rise in political violence in Osun State and the tragic killing of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area. With deep sorrow, I condemned the gruesome murder of the innocent teenager and demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Saheed Kareem, popularly known as "Tanfeani," and every individual connected with this heinous crime, following the public identification of the gang leader by the police. I warned that political violence is fast becoming a dangerous trend in Osun State, posing grave threats to peace, security, and democratic stability. I noted that the unfortunate incident in Ilobu is not isolated, but part of a disturbing pattern of violence that has claimed lives and endangered citizens in Ikire, Ilesa, Owode-Ede, Osogbo, and other parts of the state. I called on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu TUNJI DISU, psc(+), NPM Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Police Force_CRU, to order a comprehensive investigation into all incidents of political violence and ensure that perpetrators, sponsors, and collaborators are brought to justice irrespective of their political affiliations or social status. I also expressed our lack of confidence in the leadership of the Osun State Police Command under Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gottan, citing the recurring incidents of violence and the growing public perception of selective law enforcement. Consequently, I called for his immediate redeployment and a thorough investigation into the apparent operational failures under his watch. Furthermore, I appealed to the National Human Rights Commission, civil society organisations, election observers, diplomatic missions, and the international community to closely monitor developments in Osun State before the situation degenerates further. As supporters of His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and members of the Accord family, we remain committed to peace, democracy, and the rule of law. However, peace can only endure where justice prevails and accountability is guaranteed. Enough is enough. No society can prosper under the shadow of politically motivated killings. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered intensified operations in the affected corridors, including the deployment of special forces, expansion of intelligence networks, and disruption of the ransom economy that funds these groups. The military and security agencies are already carrying out targeted strikes on identified camps, rescue missions, and blocking movements along major forest routes. I made it clear that the President is fully engaged with state governors, service chiefs, and local security formations to close the security gaps and take back control of vulnerable communities. According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants attempted to seize the students and move them into a nearby bush before security personnel responded to distress calls from residents. “The situation would have been much worse if the soldiers had not arrived when they did. Today, the Nigerian Police Force faced 1,075 of those families and said with cheques in hand: ~ “We see your sacrifice. We honour your loss. And we will not let it go unrecognised.” At the Force Headquarters, Abuja, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, personally presented cheques totalling ₦2,435,421,584.11 to beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased officers, covering policy years from 2018 through 2026, including long-outstanding claims that families had waited years to receive.
