In the wild, lions avoid inbreeding, males typically leave the pride around age two to avoid mating with their mothers or sisters. In those breeding centers, though, they’ll breed siblings and parents with their direct offspring. Over time, this leads to lions with various malformations like this one.

Old Lions get arthritis in their joints and thus lose almost all their agility and strength. Younger, more powerful lions also keep all the food and hunt all the prey. It really is a sad sight
