I had an Indian coworker once who was making jokes using an Indian accent with our white coworker. I immediately asked him to stop and that it’s offensive he said I’m Indian. I said it’s offensive. He said really and our older white coworker was like yes pls stop.

Everyone always forgets that Gandhi was an affluent brown man who was of an upper caste system. He didn’t have to see himself as an untouchable and his teachings reflected that. Did he aim for equality in India? Yes. Did he have a true understanding of what it was to them? No

1. There is/was a history of dark skin being associated with hard labor and lower class in (east/south) Asian cultures. This class/ skin tone association was also present in Europe. Read some older European novels and see how fair skin complexion is a part of the description of a beautiful character. So is not just about proximity to to "Africaness" 2. to me his biggest beef seems to be more against the Asian love of white skin than a hatred of Black people. because Asians aren’t the dominant class, attempts to distance themselves from comparison with other minorities, particularly black people, is just your every day tribalism that you are can find with minorities in general as a coping mechanism. 3. I’m noticing the beginnings of a savior complex that often happens when someone feels rejected from their own group. Let’s see how this plays out.
