The single biggest mistake people make in relationship building. They do not follow up. And they do not follow up because they do not do it the night of the dinner/event/drinks. Every time I go to an event, in the car, on the way home, I email every person I met that night that I want to progress a conversation with. 99% of people do not do this. They say, I will do it tomorrow and they never do. That said, at the end of an evening, in the back of an Uber, I do not want to type 10 emails. Wispr Flow for the win. You're probably never going to use Scala day today, but the way it teaches you to think about coding problems is just such a change from the way that most people were in coding, either practically or in school. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Open-Source AI Models. "I don't think open source works the same way in AI that it has worked in other areas. Primarily because with open source you can see the source code of the model. Here we can't see inside the model, it's often called open weights instead of open source to kind of distinguish that. But a lot of the benefits, which is that many people can work on it and that it's kind of additive, don't quite work in the same way. So I've actually always seen it as a red herring. When I see a new model come out I don't care whether it's open source or not. If we talk about Deep Seek I don't think it mattered that Deep Seek is open source. I think I ask, is it a good model? Is it better than us at the things that matter? That's the only thing that I care about. It actually doesn't matter either way. Because ultimately you have to host it on the cloud. The people who host it on the cloud do inference. These are big models, they're hard to do inference on. When I think about competition I think about which models are good at the tasks that we do. I've started a nonprofit, GuardRailNow, and I need your help. Our approach is unique: I do not come from tech. I cannot write code. I do not live in SF. I am not an EA. I am not a rationalist. I have never been to Silicon Valley. I'm a dad in Baltimore talking about AI extinction risk to other people like me. AI Safety loves selling Bibles outside churches, preaching to the choir. It's easy to talk to people who are like you. It's much harder to talk with people who are very different than you. So why would AI safety people, who are from/in the SF bubble, who use EA/rationalist speech patterns and thought, think they are in any way the right people to bring the message to everyone else?? They are not. If AI Safety wants to get regular people on their side here's a hint: get out of the way. You are the problem. You do not act or talk or think in ways that connect with everyone else. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. But our lives are on the line. Get over it and pass the ball to people like me.

The challenge you get in 2025 is that many women have only achieved things because of their looks and not because they are skilled. They go through life thinking that they are talented when really they are just women. This is especially prevalent in media - I have managed both male and female YouTube channels and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that men have to do way more to get half the followers women get! The lack of humility from commentators that have the easiest jobs in the world amazes me!

Old software engineering patterns are coming back because of coding agents. Dax Raad(dax), co-founder of AI coding agent OpenCode, on why DDD is becoming more relevant and less painful: “I think it's the same problem as always, which is how do you make code bases that are easy to work in, scalable, that can flex to new requirements. A lot of the old patterns for me are coming back. We've always been a big domain-driven design company. We did it in a very light way. We're now doing it in a much heavier way because we find that these, kind of boring, enterprisey patterns end up being pretty useful because you have a bunch of idiots on your team now. Coding agents are a bunch of idiots. They are going to work 24/7 and they're going to ship a lot of stuff so you need way more guardrails than you used to. What's nice is some of these old patterns we hated because they were very verbose, they produced reliable code that was modular and safe but they were very verbose and annoying to type out… you're not typing it out anymore. Now you can get the benefits of these patterns without the downsides."

Do you ever get imposter syndrome? Yunjin : Guys, imposter syndrome is a real thing and it's really hard But, um, I think if you have imposter syndrome it's not... well, nothing in life nothing in this world is 100% good, 100% bad but, I think with imposter syndrome there's more good than there is bad That's kind of how I try to like stabilize myself whenever I feel like I'm having imposter syndrome and that's wrong of me I try to remind myself that "Oh it's better than having like a huge ego Because if you are doubting yourself, it's good to a point It gets to a point, you know? So I try not to get like... because I feel like a lot of problems often stem from me feeling like some way and then like demonizing that feeling when when it's not something that you should like demonize Yeah, so imposter syndrome, I get it But I also try to tell myself it's just a way of humbling myself, I guess It can be crippling though, sometimes And the way out of it is by keeping people that I respect and admire around me So that when they tell me that they trust me then I can trust them Because when I don't trust myself, I trust those people And thankfully, I have four of those people in my life, in my team And' then I have a bunch of staff who I feel the same way about

Downstream: the PR merge queue, reviewing and merging all of the new code into production. Anthropic is where other product teams will be in a year or two, so it's important we pay attention. "I would expect that a year from now, the way that we are conceiving of building and shipping software changes a lot. Because it's gonna be very painful to do it the current way."

I don't think that model works anymore. Circumstances have changed, we're at the end of a monetary regime that got kicked off in 1971, and it's drawing to some sort of a conclusion. Full interview:
