Starting this post on a lighter note. This nurse is, perhaps, the most annoying nurse I have had on this journey of trying to get a new leg. She is annoying in a very good way. She never stopped asking me questions. Even the mundane ones. The surgeon who led the team that gave me a new leg, is 31 years old. My surgery cost me $25,207.33. Two plates inserted into my leg and the days I lived in the hospital. I am not sure Professor Wole Soyinka will be happy about this post, but I had to do it by the way. When my insurance couldn’t cover my surgery, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili didn’t delay in raising the money to fund it and she said: “We have to find a permanent solution to your problems.” The hospital gave me time to find the money. Professor Wole Soyinka, who will be angry at my post, said: “I will go to Lagos tomorrow and see what I have in my account.” He went to Lagos and wired millions of Naira directly to the hospital and asked me to thank them for not amputating my leg. 😂 I have never met Olugbenga Agboola, the Co-founder of Flutterwave, but he is acquainted with people I know. He sent money, so a man he doesn’t know gets full healing. His Co-founder, Aboyeji Iyinoluwa extended his generosity, even to paying my rents, buying wheelchair, Walker and flight tickets. “Gratitude must be made public.” Apart from these people, here is a list of people who contributed to make sure that that hefty amount was paid off, without me setting up a GoFundMe. They acted like I was owing them money: 1. Professor Kingsley Moghalu 2. Dr Arunma Oteh 3. Chief Dele Momodu 4. JJ Omojuwa 5. Toni Kan My apologies, if I am exposing them. They don’t owe me anything at all, but these people have made life so easy for me. And I am deeply grateful. I can’t brag enough about my support system.

Professor Wole Soyinka has published over 100 books. In his over 90 years on earth, he has shown me that you should never stop. When he read my book, Lemon Grass, he sent me an email, saying: “Should let you know that I enjoyed the latest product of your wild imagination on the way home. Flight delay in Abidjan enabled me to complete reading it. The stylistic verve reminded me of Ishmael Reed - did you ever run into his works? He was also sui generis. He sort of faded out after the US Black revolution of the sixties into seventies and, so I'd be very much surprised if you'd encountered his writings.” He is well-read and has worked so hard, that there is no one like him. This is him in the 60s in the video. Still the same.

I’ve met Pattimandram Raja in person when he visited my city in 2008. I was one of the speakers in the pattimandram where he was a naduvar. Also met him online in 2021 for one of my speeches. He was always friendly, rational, and focused on ideas. I never saw him ask anyone about caste. Social media is quick to judge. I have had struggles in my life. I lost my father in an automobile accident when I was 8. I started having seizures when I was 13 and was diagnosed with epilepsy and NF1. In my mid-20s, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I also have chronic migraines. But through it all, I have never lost my faith. God has gotten me through it all. Whatever you are going through, He will get you through it. Your life may not be easy all of the time, but you have a God who will walk you through it.
